This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place June 22-24. We're excited to report that we will have people on hand for this amazing weekend of historic racing demonstrations and we're looking forward to getting lots of pics to share with all of you. With this year's theme being, 'Spark of Genius – Breaking Records, Pushing Boundaries', it should be an extra special year. And the Festival organizers have just released info about another special gathering being held on the adjacent
Along with the LeMans sports racers from Audi and Peugeot, the JCB Dieselmax is probably the best poster child for how well a diesel can perform at the highest levels of motorsports. You may remember the JCB Dieselmax, as it was the streamliner that set a new Land Speed Record (LSR) for diesel cars last August by going more than 350 mph. We covered it quite extensively, as it was a pretty amazing feat. And we're not the only ones who took notice. The Dieselmax just won a fairly prestigious award
That was fast. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
When you think of steam-powered travel you think of ... going 200 miles per hour in a rocket car, right? Good, because that's exactly what a team in Britain is trying to do next year as part of the British Steam Car Challenge. The team got good news recently when Slough Heat & Power in Berkshire announced they would help the team with its initial trials by providing steam from a specially-built gantry. The team has proved, mathematically, that 200 mph is possible, and they're designing the I
A few weeks ago, the JCB Dieselmax broke the world land-speed record for a diesel-powered car. For good reason, the posts we wrote on the subject (see below) were quite popular, so I know there's going to be at least some interest in the technical news that the Dieselmax was built using Ansys Technology. Ansys has been making simulation software since 1970, and the Dieselmax's aerodynamic style was designed using the company's Fluent computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software package without an
That's one fast diesel. And the JCB Dieselmax is even faster now that it has taken the FIA international land speed record for a diesel-powered vehicle with a speed of 328.767 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah yesterday. Just last week, the JCB Dieselmax's world speed record was 317.021. The Dieselmax is propelled by two Ricardo JCB444-LSR engines.
No faster diesel-powered vehicle exists than the JCB Dieselmax, now that the needle-sharp vehicle has broken the diesel land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats with a measured-mile speed of 317 mph Thursday. The JCB Dieselmax did two runs of 308 and 325 mph, giving an average (and record establishing) speed of 317.021. The vehicle's engine was developed by Ricardo, and Ricardo director of diesel engineering Ian Penny said, "Establishing a new Bonneville course record in excess of 300 mph
