At Waste Expo 2011, Autocar announced the commercial launch of its E3 hydraulic hybrid chassis cab. The launch of this advanced hybrid follows the successful implementation of a pre-production fleet of E3s that have been hauling away waste in southern Florida since September of 2010.

Hybrid garbage trucks are slowly popping up in cities across the U.S. In late July, four hydraulic hybrid recycling vehicles started working the streets of Ann Arbor, MI. In early September, Los Alamos County, NM took delivery of its first hybrid refuse truck and now, three areas of southern Florida have joined the hybrid action. Miami-Dade County and the cities of Miami and Hialeah have each acquired an Autocar E3 refuse truck equipped with Parker Hannifin's RunWise hydraulic hybrid technology.

FCC, the company that manages the trash collection in Madrid, has announced the purchase of 14 trucks equipped with hybrid powertrains. These trucks, with a narrower track, will be used in the old parts of the city. FCC has partnered with Saft batteries in order to create the powertrain, in a contracted investment of 1.5 million euros.
