Albert Einstein has commonly been quoted as saying that stupidity (or insanity, depending on your source) is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Which begs the question, with over 100 years of traffic enforcement behind us, why are we still relying on the same methods of catch and punish to modify driver behavior? If it hasn't worked over the last century, chances are it won't work over the next. But Australian V8 Supercar champ Jamie Whincup has come up wi

The surfeit of driving academies means that behind-the-wheel instruction is no longer only about being a better driver; it's about learning to vigorously drive the car you want to drive. Now it is Jaguar's turn to leap through the flaming driving school ring with the launch of its R Performance Academy.

If you are like most of us, you look back at your first DMV-issued driving test – that one you took with a dull nub of a pencil while standing in a crowded room – and remember racking your brain over questions that not only made no sense, but some that were downright confusing. Whether we approve of the age-old process or not, everyone eventually passes their first driving test (and it seems many forget everything the moment they hit the highways).

What do you do when your racing career is reaching its end? Well, if you were high-profile enough at the height of your career, you open a racing school. That's what former Indy and Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve has done, following various attempts to remain in F1, switch to NASCAR, starting a music career, and opening his own club/restaurant in downtown Montreal.

The Herbert Wells Ice Rink in College Park, Maryland offers 2-day ice-driving classes. But instead of getting on the frozen stuff behind the wheel of any old Bugatti, Bentley, or Saab, the rink puts you in the captain's chair of a Zamboni Ice Resurfacer. On the first night, you'll learn the mechanics of the eponymous icing machine, the second night you'll actually do "cuts," which is the official term for what a Zamboni driver does with his Zamboni. The best part about it is that the entire clas

Established supercar manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini have their own test drivers on permanent retainer, and have legions more on call should the need arise. But who does an upstart exotic automaker call when it needs to set up its new machinery? Loris Bicocchi. He's largely responsible for the dynamic performance on such exotica as the Koenigsegg, Pagani Zonda and Bugatti EB110 and Veyron. He's been doing it for decades, but now that he's turning 50, Bicocchi has come to the realizati

It's been said more times than we care to rehash; financial liquidity is unrelated to driving talent. Bugatti is yet another automaker recognizing this simple fact and is planning to offer Veyron owners a driving course at the Anneau du Rhin circuit in Colmar, France to bone up on their skills before handing over the keys.

... and with good reason. Most drivers learned from misinformed acquaintances, and the few that sought out professional instruction did so because it was required, sometimes getting antiquated methods in the process. BMW wants to right those wrongs. Well, sort of.

Since the advent of digital video recorder technology (i.e., Tivo), advertisers have sought to keep viewer's attention by involving their products within programming instead of just airing their messages during commercial breaks. Volvo has found a willing partner in Microsoft, who seeks to go head-to-head with Google's YouTube in the online video wars.

Remember in February when we reported Ferrari opening a driving school in Canada? Now 'sibling' Maserati (both manufacturers are owned by Fiat) is opening a school as well, but located a little bit south in the Red, White and Blue.
