It seems there's always room at the top. Each year, automakers add more and more luxurious trims for their trucks. That's how we get near-luxury vehicles like the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited and 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country. Nissan is updating the Rogue Sport line for 2018.5. It's not a major refresh, but it does make a number of safety features standard on all models including the base-level S. The standard features include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic assist. The top-level SL trim also gains another standard convenience feature in the form of adaptive cruise control. This feature will also be available on the mid-level SV in the SV Technology Package.

The Indianapolis 500 is getting back-to-back Corvette pace cars. After a Corvette Grand Sport led the pack last year, a Corvette ZR1 will lead this year. The ZR1's participation means that it will be the 15th Corvette to pace the Indy 500. It will also be the 29th Chevy to do so.

Tesla Inc is being probed by a California agency for occupational safety after a report that the electric carmaker failed to disclose serious injuries at a Fremont factory. The state's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA) disclosed the inspection on Wednesday, two days after news website Reveal said that Tesla's omissions in legally mandated reports made its safety record appear better than it was.

Lyft on Thursday announced a multimillion-dollar investment to counterbalance the pollution produced by its entire fleet of ride-sharing vehicles by immediately purchasing carbon offsets verified by a third party. The plan to become fully carbon-neutral, it says, makes Lyft one of the top voluntary purchasers of carbon offsets in the world.

Polestar's halo coupe, the shapely Polestar 1 is about to get its China debut at the Auto China show in Beijing next week, after its global presentation at the Geneva Motor Show last month. It's been more than a year since the refreshed 2018 Ford F-150 debuted at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. While we've driven the gasoline-powered variants, news on the upcoming diesel model has been scarce. We know the truck's 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 will make 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, but the all-important fuel economy figures weren't revealed until today. The new engine will net the big truck 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city with a combined rating of 25 mpg.

Big news today from GM's luxury brand. Cadillac ousted Johan de Nysschen after four years at the helm. It's unclear exactly what let to his departure, but slumping sales and a lack of crossovers surely influenced GM's decision. Cadillac currently has one crossover and one SUV on sale. The weather must be getting nice in Germany, because BMW is testing Z4 prototypes at the Nürburgring with the top down. And we're not sure if it's the nice weather or something else, but BMW has also become more lax with interior camouflage. This particular prototype hardly had anything covered, allowing us to see the production-ready interior.

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday invalidated Obama-era guidance aimed at preventing auto lenders from charging borrowers higher rates based on factors such as race or national origin. The Senate voted 51 to 47 to disapprove the guidance, which was issued in 2013 by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and regarded by critics as an overstep of the agency's powers.

Chevrolet will introduce a new technology feature that will allow drivers to pay for gas at the pump from inside their vehicles without having to swipe a credit card or use their smartphone.

In addition to the all-electric Enspire crossover concept revealed this week ahead of the Beijing auto show, Buick is adding a new production variant to its Velite series of electrified vehicles for China. Although it seems like we're seeing a new variant of the Porsche 911 every month, the current generation is nearing its end. Johan de Nysschen, a longtime automotive industry executive, is out the door at Cadillac after four years at the helm of GM's flagship luxury brand. Steve Carlisle will replace de Nysschen as General Motors senior vice president and president, Cadillac. Carlisle previously served as president and managing director of GM Canada.
