We Autoblog staffers have had our ups and downs with our long-term 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, but there's no question that the cheeky three-door hatchback has got its proponents. Case in point: at the recent driving event for the fire-breathing SRT Viper TA, none other than Ralph Gilles sauntered over to have a closer look at the matte grey Veloster we'd driven out to the track that day. Gilles had lots of praise for the Veloster styling; not out of line with similar sentiments we've heard all
Here it is: the midsize Chevrolet Colorado pickup that's destined for US showrooms in 2014. And while you might simply assume that the truck seen here is simply an Americanized version of the global Colorado already on sale in other markets, it's much, much more than that. The goal with the 2015 Colorado, according to Alan Batey, Chevrolet's Global Brand Chief, is to offer the "most capable, versatile and fuel-efficient pickup" in the US.
Preparing a beachhead in the marketplace for the 2015 Porsche Macan crossover has been a years-long project for the German company. We've been hearing and reporting on rumors of the vehicle from its ideation stage and have covered the Macan's birth thoroughly over the last 12 months, including teasers, rumors, spy shots, leaked videos and more. Now, just ahead of the LA Auto Show-debut of Porsche's first-ever compact crossover, the wait for details is at an end.
Acura has endured a year of mixed reviews and middling sales for its new RLX flagship. Meanwhile, the Japanese automaker has been readying what may be the very best version of the car for its debut. Now the wait is almost over, as Acura will show its 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD at this year's LA Auto Show.
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado will no doubt be one of the bigger debuts at this week's LA Auto Show, but the new midsize pickup won't be the only bit of news coming from the Bowtie brand. Chevrolet has just confirmed that two new Sonic models will hit the stage in LA – the RS Sedan and the production Dusk, the latter of which we first saw in concept form at the 2012 SEMA Show (pictured below).
There are occasions in life when something happens in the outside world and I think, "Damn. I wish Dad was here so we could talk about this."
Mercedes-Benz just unveiled its latest supercar (which was teased yesterday), the AMG Vision Gran Turismo, but we'll never have the chance to see it on the road. That's because it's a virtual supercar that was designed for the world of Gran Turismo 6, the latest installment in Sony's premier racing game for the Playstation 3. However, it was made into a 1:1-scale model to celebrate the opening of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development Center in Sunnyvale, CA on Nov. 19, so the car isn't totall
After introducing the CrossBlue plug-in hybrid SUV concept at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, Volkswagen showed off the CrossBlue Coupe concept in Shanghai in April. We're about to get our third CrossBlue sighting at the LA Auto Show next week with an updated, seemingly more production-friendly version of the CrossBlue Coupe.
Subaru has pulled the covers off its 2015 Legacy Concept before the car's debut at the LA Auto Show next week. The sedan trades in its relatively staid styling for a more aggressive, coupe-like design that almost makes us forget about the rear doors from some angles. Overall, the Legacy looks beefier than your average Subaru, similar to the Ford Taurus.
Volkswagen has released all of the official details of the 2015 VW e-Golf ahead of its debut next week at the LA Auto Show. The zero-emission version of the next-gen Golf, which we saw for the first time at Frankfurt, will go on sale in the US during the fourth quarter of next year.
It used to be that if you wanted a luxury SUV, you had to go big. Just look at the first high-riders released by some of the major luxury automakers - Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LX - and you'll see what we mean. But since 2009 the small premium crossover segment has grown a whopping 200 percent, so it's no surprise that each has followed up with smaller luxury crossovers. And this is the latest.
It is an unjust world we live in. There are a number of cars on sale that we wouldn't be upset to see disappear. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is certainly not one of those cars. With its absurd gull-wing doors and its wonderful, ridiculous, powerful 6.2-liter, AMG V8, it remains one of the most exciting cars on sale today, despite having hit the US market back in 2010.
The car you see above could, possibly, be the 2015 Subaru WRX, a car that isn't supposed to reach the public eye until next week's Los Angeles Auto Show. The leaked image has been circulating around the web, along with a brief teaser video of the new sports sedan (which you can see below).
With freshly redesigned 2014 Silverado 1500 and 2015 Silverado HD trucks, Chevrolet will continue its pickup offensive by unveiling the next-gen Colorado at the LA Auto Show. We've already seen a teaser for the new Colorado – and its GMC Canyon twin – but now Chevy is showing off another teaser shot of its midsize truck parked next to the Silverado.
Honda is bringing a new concept to the this month's Los Angeles Auto Show called the FCEV Concept. "FCEV" stands for something, and no, it's not "funky chicken earns victory" or other such nonsense - it's short for fuel-cell electric vehicle, a market that Honda has played in, most recently, with its hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity.
There's little question that the new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is one seriously capable performance sedan. But as impressive as it is, at the level it competes, there are other options to consider. The Audi S8, BMW Alpina B7, Jaguar XJR and Maserati Quattroporte all offer similar levels of performance and power. The S65 on the other hand, with its plutocratic V12 engine, is on a different level entirely. And Mercedes has just revealed the new model.
Aside from an admittedly significant refresh in 2011, the guts underpinning the midsize Ford Edge crossover (shown above as a 2012 model) haven't received much attention since it was introduced seven years ago. That is all about to change as Ford plans to roll out a new concept vehicle at the LA Auto Show that will preview the next-gen Edge, which we may have actually gotten our first look at back in February.
When Jaguar previewed its new sportscar two years ago with the C-X16 concept, it showed a coupe form. But when the car hit production as the F-Type, it rolled out in roadster form only. Not that we're complaining, but we all knew it wouldn't be long before Coventry revealed the production coupe, and that's just what it's doing at this month's LA Auto Show.
Acura has announced that it will be showing the production version of the RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. You'll recall that the standard 3.5-liter V6-powered RLX has been on sale for some time, and that our review of Acura's flagship sedan was mixed. On paper, at least, the RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD should fare better.
