Toyota on Thursday said it was recalling a total of about 2.9 million vehicles globally in the latest campaign having to do with Takata airbag inflators. The affected cars are in Japan, China, Oceania and other regions, including its Corolla Axio sedan and RAV4 SUV crossover due to potentially faulty airbag inflators. Fuji Heavy Industries, the maker of Subaru cars, Mitsubishi Motors and truck maker Hino also recalled a total of about 240,000 vehicles in Japan over inflators made by Takata Cor
Mitsubishi calls its CVTs "constant velocity transmissions." That's pretty ironic, given this recall.
Only 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sports with the base 2.0-liter engine and a continuously variable transmission are affected by this latest recall.
A new report calls out Toyota, FCA, VW, and Mitsubishi for continuing to sell new vehicles in the US that have defective Takata airbags.
Mitsubishi is recalling 25,185 units of the Mirage due to snow and salt corroding a connector that could delay deployment of the front airbags.
Mitsubishi is recalling nearly 1,500 units of the 2014-2015 Lancer Evolution and Ralliart because of possible wear to their fuel tank from the parking brake cable.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is starting to announce the expanded Takata airbag inflator recalls. FCA has over 5 million vehicles affected worldwide, and BMW has over 420,000 in the US. Honda's expansion includes 350,000 more Civics and Accords.
Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru are expanding their global Takata inflator recalls by 715k. Many of these models are in Japan.
The NHTSA has issued two separate recalls for the Mitsubishi Lancer, Lancer Sportback, Lancer Evolution, Outlander and Outlander Sport, both related to visibility problems.
Under rare circumstances, the spring in the clutch ignition interlock switch on stick-shift 2006-07 Dodge Ram, Dakota and Mitsubishi Raider pickups could fail, but one reported fatality was enough for Chrysler and NHTSA to issue a recall of nearly 67,000 vehicles.
Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort ou
Unfortunately, the government's list still contains errors.
Mitsubishi is recalling 165,923 vehicles in the US because it's possible for the drive belt to detach from their engines, potentially causing a stall. Specifically, the campaign covers 2008-2011 model-year examples of the Lancer, Lancer Evolution (pictured above) and Outlander as well as the 2009-2011 Lancer Sportback and 2011 Outlander Sport. All of the affected models use some version of the brand's 4B1 four-cylinder engine.
Mitsubishi is issuing a recall for the 2010-2014 i-MiEV that affects 1,810 units of the little electric car, because it's possible for the brake vacuum pump to stop working. If this happens, the result would be longer stopping distances, according to the company. The affected models were built between September 15, 2009, and March 25, 2014.
Mitsubishi is recalling 733 of its 2013 Outlander Sports that were fitted with leather seat covers due to problems with the seat-mounted airbags. Apparently, the wiring for the airbags may have been routed incorrectly when the seat covers were installed at the port.
Mitsubishi will be recalling over 10,000 Lancer Evolutions built between December 12, 2007 and March 5, 2013, covering model years 2008 to 2013. The recall only affects cars with manual transmissions, though, so if you opted for a Lancer Evo with a quick-shifting SST, this recall doesn't apply to you.
Back in March, production of both the Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid and the all-electric i-MiEV ground to a halt over a pair of incidents where overheated lithium-ion batteries caused vehicle fires. Following the rocky start, The Japan Times is reporting that production of the Outlander PHEV has recommenced following the five-month stoppage.
Just 305 units of the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport are the subject of a recall over a potential suspension issue. Crossovers made from January 17-25 of this year might suffer from a bad weld on the front left strut's stabilizer link. If it fails, damage to the brake hose or tire could result, in turn making steering or braking control of the compact CUV more difficult.
The panoramic roof offered on the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a great way to make the cabin feel more open, but some owners of the compact CUV could get a little more openness than they bargained for. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall for Outlander Sport models built between August 2010 and March 2011 due to the possibility that the panoramic roof could fly off.
