Both Chrysler and Volvo have announced fairly sizeable recalls. Chrysler is bringing a total of 26,397 cars, trucks and vans back to dealers to replace a faulty power steering line the company says could cause an engine fire. The hoses have been found to separate from the crimped end thanks to a change in the type of materials used in the hose's manufacturing process. The Detroit News

The ever-conscious safety fanatics at Volvo have realized it's unwittingly made a mistake on their 2007-2010 S80 sedans. It seems that the maximum permissible tire pressure information was printed incorrectly in the owner's manuals and on the sticker pasted to the vehicles' door jams. Worse, that same incorrect inflation data is hard-coded into the cars' tire-pressure monitoring systems.

It's not a large recall, but the effort will correct a potentially serious problem. Volvo has announced a recall of 82,000 vehicles due to a rust problem that can lead to engine stall. The recall affects My 2004 through 2006 5-cylinder gasoline-powered S40 and V50 models. Volvo has revealed that it's recalling 42,000 XC90 SUVs to inspect a suspect battery switch. Only North American vehicles had this switch, which apparently creates the risk of short circuits if the jack handle comes into contact with it. Volvo seems particularly concerned that this could happen on vehicles that were serviced by technicians in such a way that the potential for a short circuit was created. Looks like Volvo's bad recall news we told you about Wednesday got worse. Reuters is reporting that Volvo will recall 360,000 cars, not 170,000 we said in the previous post.

The NHTSA says Ford, Volvo and Chrysler are recalling a total of about 300,600 vehicles.

Ford subsidiary Volvo is recalling some 250,000 of its vehicles worldwide. Affected models include the S40 sedan, V50 wagon (MY 2004-2006) and the popular XC90 SUV (MY 2003-2006). According to the manufacturer, fuel hoses in the S40 and V50 could be damaged by engine heat while there is a potential problem with the XC90's steering arm.
