RIP: Motor Trend Classic cancelled

While perusing our latest issue of the autowriters.com newsletter for February, we noticed an announcement by Truck Trend editor and Motor Trend writer Mark Williams that reveals the end has come for Motor Trend Classics, the bi-monhtly publication that was obviously a labor of love for the MT staff that produced it. Apparently, not enough advertising could be secured to keep it going.

Watch Lovecraft Biofuels TV commercials online

"It's cheaper than regular gas, but that's not the point." No, it's not... but it could help make it easier to make the switch. These commercials for Lovecraft Biofuels highlight a few people who have done conversions on their diesel-powered automobiles to run on biofuels. In one memorable shot, an attractive young lady dumps vegetable oil into her tank, then onto her salad which she proceeds to eat. Another man says that his car "smells like Thai food", which is "good, unless you're hungry."

BMW to start building sportvans

Could this portend the impending doom of the SUV as family car? BMW will be adding sportvans to their lineup beginning with the F5 in 2009. The basis for the F5 will be provided by the X5. Following on the heels of the F5 will be a van based on the 3-series called, quite naturally, the F3. Underneath the five-door five-placers will likely be found several power options, as well as available all-wheel drive with rear-wheel drive standard. The rhetoric is that large diameter wheels will be avoide

Talking urinal cake's anti-DWI message: "Hey there, big guy. Having a few drinks?"

Of course, just like any sane person would be, we at Autoblog are totally against drunk driving. There have been a few technological nannies cropping up of late lately to help combat the problem, including breathalyzers mounted in vehicles that are wired to the ignition circuit. Thise devices won't allow your car to start until you've passed the test. We won't weigh in on whether these are a good idea or not at this time (personal rights or the rights o

Biodiesel is good for farmers, the environment and ... spam?

You get spam, right? Who doesn't. And, if there's anything good about spam emails, it's the humor value. I like the complete absurdity of some of the subject lines, begging you to click on the email. I get hundreds every day, but I can't just let the spam filter take care of them because at least once a week an important email gets shunted into the spam folder and I would miss it if I didn't scan that folder every day.

GTO a real tire shredder?

There aren't too many cars out there that can shred all four tires at once, but that's exactly what certain Pontiac GTO models are being accused of. Cleveland's Newsnet5 looked into GTO owners' complaints of shredded front tires with all the drama and hidden pinhole cameras (see the video here) you'd expect from a such a story.
