Mercedes-Benz opted to tease the assembled media at its post-New York Auto Show party, showing off a pair of images of the exquisitely crafted interior of the highly anticipated successor of the SLS AMG - the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GT. Slated for a debut in the fall at either Paris or Los Angeles (we're betting Paris), you'll note straight away that ...
Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was ...
If you've ever visited Germany, you know that Mercedes-Benz doesn't exactly carry the high-end cache in its homeland that it does in the US. While the Three-Pointed Star is still certainly known for its luxury sedans and sports cars, the brand also represents most of the taxis on the road, and its Sprinter vans make many of the deliveries. The upscale ...
Mercedes-Benz says it reduced its fleetwide vehicle emissions by 4.3 percent last year. Of course, the German automaker has another 29 percent to go to meet the European Commission's 2020 mandate. But who's counting? Mercedes' luxury and sports car bent has made it a relative laggard when it comes to increasing fleetwide fuel-efficiency, but the company ...
While we're still a ways off from the automotive awards season proper, where things like North American Car and Truck of the Year, Motor Trend's Car of the Year and Car and Driver's Ten Best are named, that doesn't mean there aren't trophies being handed out to deserving automakers. Ward's 10 Best Interiors being one of them. As the name might imply, the ...
Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its 2014 Brand Image Awards, which look at brands with "attributes that capture the attention and enthusiasm" of customers in the market for a new car. The award is divided up into luxury brands and everyone else non-luxury brands, with a number of sub-awards in each group. There's also a single award for ...
Mercedes-Benz will be among the numerous automakers presenting new concepts at the Beijing Motor Show later this month, but at the company's annual shareholders' meeting today in Berlin, Daimler chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche gave an advanced look at what to expect. Called the Concept Coupé SUV, the show car is expected to preview the production ...
Planning to reduce its platform count to just four, Mercedes-Benz will put the next generation SL on the same Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) as the upcoming SLK. Right now they are the only two cars planned to use MSA, with the firm's other rear-wheel-drive cars going on the Modular Rear Architecture (MRA). That leaves the Modular Front and Modular ...
We're still a couple of weeks away from the public debut of the new Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe at the fast-approaching New York Auto Show, but already we're receiving word of an even more powerful version in the works. That, of course, would be the S65 AMG Coupe – the twelve-cylinder version of the latest S-Class Coupe, two-door counterpart to the S65 ...
Place an order for a SL-Class roadster in North America and your choices come down to the SL550, the SL63 AMG (both with twin-turbo V8s) or the top-of-the-line SL65 AMG with a twin-turbo V12. But overseas buyers also have the option of a smaller engine, and soon American buyers will as well. Until now that's been the SL350, packing a naturally-aspirated ...
We aren't sure about you, but when someone mentions the Jurassic Park films, John Williams' soaring anthem immediately works its way into our ears. That's why we're humming it as we write about this latest bit of automotive news - the next JP film will feature the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6. According to an announcement on the film's Facebook page, which ...
We might be looking at the end of an era in European performance models. Mercedes-Benz is doing away with the SLS in favor of a rumored smaller and cheaper SLC, and Porsche has said that a new 911 GT2 isn't necessarily a sure thing, which means another 911 GT2 RS is even farther away. In its latest video, Evo's Jethro Bovingdon pits the ultimate versions ...
Following our first drive of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class a couple of years ago, not much has changed in the land of Merc's midsize, two-row crossover. Sure, the high-performance ML63 AMG version followed the standard models, and reports of a BMW X6-fighting, coupe-like variant have surfaced, but aside from that, things have largely been quiet on the M-Class ...
Apparently, Mercedes-Benz got around to celebrating Saint Patrick's Day a little late this year because there isn't much else that could explain this eye-catching green and black tiger-striped test car rolling through a very crowded Barcelona street. The vehicle in question is the latest collaboration between the Three-Pointed Star and AMG that is taking ...
Mercedes-Benz has had great success with its front-wheel drive compact platform that underpins the CLA-Class, GLA-Class and other models. Now, it looks like that spirit of sharing might be moving up market for the Three-Pointed Star. AutoBild in Germany suggests the company is working on a modular chassis for the next SL-Class and SLK-Class, and it would ...
The Aston Martin Lagonda SUV concept revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show didn't earn the plaudits the company is used to when it reveals new models, and it has lived an uncertain life ever since. Thought to have been scrapped along with the entire revival of the Lagonda brand, then thought to have been resurrected due to Chinese, Middle Eastern and ...
Is three the magic number of cylinders for Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler and its efforts to build smaller powertrains for its compact hybrids? Potentially, yes, the German automaker could see the need for three-cylinder mills, Automotive News reports. The company doesn't have any plans for them as of yet, though. Daimler executive Bernhard Heil talked ...
With a new 2015 C-Class already upon us, we've known it's only a matter of time before Mercedes-Benz drops a new C63 AMG on us. And it looks like that time is coming soon. Spied here undergoing testing in its native Germany, this is the second time we're getting a glimpse at the upcoming new C63, but while it may be wearing just as much camouflage as ...
We give BMW a whole lot of grief for its niche-exploiting ways. Check our report on the rumored X2 to see what we mean. But in reality, Mercedes-Benz is very nearly as guilty. The latest batch of evidence supporting the argument is this, the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake. See, Mercedes already makes the A-Class, a five-door hatch that rides on ...
The agonizingly slow courtship between Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz has been a regular topic of conversation ever since the 2009 Lagonda Concept debuted, riding on a Mercedes GL chassis. Beyond that one polarizing concept, though, nearly every other attempt to pair the two brands up in a major way has fallen through. Only the technical partnership ...
