7This Mercedes Silver Arrow image started out like A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Iconic Racers Came Back To Live With Drawings, Photos And 3D Graphics

The image above might look like a fairly interesting painting of some old Mercedes-Benz grand prix cars getting, but in reality, it showcases far more than just paint on canvas. To celebrate this year's 80th anniversary of its Silver Arrows racecars, Mercedes commissioned some very talented digital artists to craft a series of 12 depictions of important moments in the company's racing history to display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

451993 Mercedes Benz SL600 promises bargain V12 thrills in Harry's Garage

Former Evo editor Harry Metcalfe lives a pretty fantastic life when it comes to automobiles. When he's not in England driving around in a 1954 Land Rover Series 1 or a recently purchased 1987 Ferrari Testarossa, he's in the south of France with his 1993 Mercedes-Benz SL600, which is the focus of his latest Harry's Garage video.

33Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe vs Porsche Panamera Turbo S in unusual lux showdown

We'll admit it, we're really looking forward to more time with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. Compared to other high-dollar luxury coupes – we're looking at you Bentley Continental GT – it's more stylish, easily more affordable, and since it's a Mercedes, lacks the sense of fragility that comes with a more exotic name plate.

21Finally, a bad rap video about driving an old Mercedes on fryer grease

Rapping and bragging about cars goes back practically to the very beginning of the genre. After all, a lot of hip-hop is about presenting a tough swagger and having a cool ride is a huge part of that. The group The Mighty 190 certainly isn't the first to rap about rolling in a Mercedes-Benz, but it might be the only one to rhyme about cursing in a vegetable-fueled Mercedes 190D.

19What happens when an S63 AMG Coupe hooks up with one of Mercedes' big rigs?

The folks in the ad department for Mercedes-Benz in Europe were certainly being creative when they came up with the company's latest commercial. The bizarre spot is simultaneously an ode to that Patrick Swayze classic Dirty Dancing, a favorite of mom's everywhere, while also being weirdly sexual.

28Mercedes-AMG GT joins the Just As Good In Person Club in Paris [w/video]

There are cars debuting in Paris this year that we've heard virtually nothing about until we showed up at Porte de Versailles, and others that we've hotly anticipated seeing for months or more. The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT falls distinctly into that second category. Approaching this year's motor-soiree, our only real question was, "Will it be as pretty in the tin as it is in pictures."

22Jay Leno's Mercedes 600 is dictator chic

Here's a fun fact: certain classical songs double as excellent driving songs. Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries is one such example. So, as soon as you here those iconic notes, be certain you're in for some seriously cool sheet metal. Any Mercedes-Benz 600 would qualify for such a musical treatment, but Jay Leno's example is doubly worth a look.

6Horses, beer and Mercedes-Benz take credit for the van

There may not be as many minivans on the road as there used to be, but make no mistake about it: the van is still an indispensable mode of transportation. Especially for things like beer, ice cream, flowers, teams of television adventurers, and... more beer. There have been many automakers that have made vans over the years, and many that still do. But Mercedes-Benz is keen to point out that it pioneered the van.

13Mercedes Future Truck 2025 envisions self-driving big rigs [w/video]

Want to see what a long-haul truck will look like ten years from now? Well Mercedes-Benz wants to show it to you, and to that end has unveiled the concept truck you see here.

18Mercedes-AMG GT attacks Circuit of the Americas

Mercedes-Benz is having a banner year with its Formula One team. Through 2014, the constructor has 454 championship points; ahead of its nearest competitor (Red Bull-Renault) by a margin of 182 tally marks. We're sure they can almost taste the champagne.

15Mercedes-AMG GT to debut on September 9

Mercedes-Benz kept the SLR McLaren around for a solid eight years. The SLS AMG hasn't even been around for five, but already Benz is preparing to roll out its next sports car. We've been anticipating the arrival of the new Mercedes-AMG GT for some time now, but now we've got the exact date of its debut.

112014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG goes Unplugged in Detroit

As a reformed hooligan, there is still nothing more paralyzing to me than flashing red and blue lights matched with the sound of a siren, on a car headed right toward me. But it happens. And it happened while I stood in a cold Detroit parking lot taking the photos of the matte black 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG you see here. On its own, the Merc ("Darth Benz" as my friend Eric aptly named it) looks all sorts of suspicious, with its murdered-out look only broken by chrome accents and the red brake

20Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit can haul on the track

Line up any two comparable vehicles, and eople are going to want to race them. Need proof? In its latest track battle, Auto Express wants to know which commercial vehicle can lap a circuit faster – a Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Let's face it, neither of these European vans were ever meant to be near the track unless they are delivering a racecar and a ton of parts for a fun weekend, but it's massively fun to watch them give it a go anyway.

9Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 races Ferrari, McLaren and more at track day

Like the famously bizarre Lamborghini LM002, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 feels like a vehicle that shouldn't even exist. With 544 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V8 routing through all six wheels and five locking differentials, the 6x6 can take on just about anything offroad that Mother Earth could throw at it. One intrepid owner wanted to take his extremely rare SUV to the track to find out how it fared against the premier supercars of the moment.

54Smart highlights safety of new Fortwo by crashing into much bigger brother

Smart is just getting ready to launch its new Fortwo and Forfour minicars, riding on a completely different platform, and the diminutive brand wants to show that its latest creations can stand up to some serious abuse. For such a tiny car, the crashworthiness of the Smarts is a legitimate concern when taking on larger, heavier vehicles. To prove their survivability, the company filmed a head-on collision pitting the latest Fortwo against a Mercedes-Benz S-Class weighing more than twice as much.

6Recharge Wrap-Up: No new Smart Roadster, Africa to UK on one tank, Duke's efficient axial engine [w/videos]

Smart will not make another generation of the Roadster, but a Smart SUV might be in the cards. According to Smart's CEO, Annette Winkler, "The Roadster isn't a profitable business case. Everybody is keen on the car, but nobody wants to pay the bill." What Car? states that Smart is likely planning a baby SUV to take on the Nissan Juke and its ilk. But for the immediate future, Winkler says Smart "must focus on how we can maximize potential of the Fortwo and Forfour. That is strategy number one."

38Mercedes' Alabama plant gets Happy with start of new C-Class production

Mercedes-Benz first announced plans start building the C-Class at its Alabama factory back in 2009. It's taken a few years to get everything ready, but the first one finally rolled off the line on Wednesday. The milestone gave workers there enough reasons to be happy that they just couldn't help cranking up some Pharrell and dancing. Alabama governor Robert Bentley was at the plant to watch the first sedan be completed and uploaded this video of the celebration, as did local news outlet AL.com.
