The two companies are cooperating on a lithium ion battery to power the vehicle. Nissan will be focusing on the Japanese market while Renault will tackle the European fleet market. The joint development work is targeting developments in packaging the full system, the electric motor, and the control software for the regenerative braking, battery charging and optimizing bat

Alt Car Expo: Feed 400 horsepower with hydrogen, and maybe a cover model will ride along

A vocal segment of the environmental movement continues to advocate the merits of hydrogen. One of the more effective showcases for hydrogen is Angels Nest, a completely sustainable living compound in New Mexico. Think of a green Disneyland for environmentalists: harvesting their own water, growing their food and generating their power with solar and wind. Included at Angels Nest is a free-range organic hydrogen refueling station, which is used to fill up

Russian tuners turn toward next project: a "varnished" Hot Rod pickup

Remember that awesome Volga Roadster from a few months ago, the BMW 6-Series rebody that looked like a Ford 49 concept car? Well, the guys who did that custom rod are at it again. This time they have turned their attention to an old Soviet truck. It might not sound as sexy as the Russian Fisker alternative, but let us explain.

The next step up is the V-6 GT that is $600 more dear than last year at $19,895. The GT Limited has been dropped so the next bump takes you to the top of the line (and "trac

Alt Car Expo: Q&A with Plug-In America's Paul Scott

I heard there were an estimated 7,000 people at the Santa Monica Alt Car Expo on Saturday. That's a lot of people to chat up, but Paul Scott, the founding member of dontcrush.com and a driving force behind Plug-In America was still going strong in the afternoon. That's when I stopped by his booth and asked him a few questions about the way the major automakers have answered the call for PHEVs, whether neighborhoo
