SEMA is right around the corner, folks, and that means a whole slew of custom auto builders are working furiously to finish project cars in time for their Vegas introductions. One of the coolest is bound to come from ICON. Based on a 1965 Dodge D200 crew cab that previously saw use by the U.S. military, we fully expect ICON's latest to be in the running for best-of-show.

Underneath the customized vintage bodywork will sit a chassis borrowed from a much more recent Ram 3500 fitted with a 4.5-inch suspension lift kit. A Banks-modified Cummins turbodiesel with six inline cylinders displacing 5.9 liters will reportedly pump out 975 pound-feet of torque. That's the kind of get-up-and-go we can get behind.

Only one of these machines is currently being built, painted in white with black accents and wheels. The interior is sewn up from free-range bison leather and is outfitted with a high-end stereo system, according to Fox News. This one is headed to an anonymous client, and we're jealous. Very jealous.

I guess I\'m not sold on the whole ICON thing. I saw the ICON Bronco at SEMA last year and thought it was cool from a distance, but fit and finish were a C- up close. I know Jay Leno has one and they are getting visibility in the press, but I personally think they need to bring more to the table for the prices they demand.

I can't wait to see it. I'd love to build a project like this someday.

I was kind of hoping Icon would build a Gen 1 International Scout or even offer a completely origianal design. One can always dream.

Came here to post this. An Icon Scout would be something I'd mortgage several vital organs to own. Though I'd prefer a II since the Icon Bronco is already similar in footprint. An Icon based on the Scout II would probably take any motor/trans combo in existence easily...I had several friends with 460/C6 Scouts back in the day.

I have to agree with you Tahoe; they are marketed really well and thats about it. That's how they are so popular right now. There are many builders doing what ICON can do with higher quality and a lower price. They just don't have the notoriety ICON has. If this were a 72 PowerWagon I'd be more into this. D200s are flat out ugly, not even cool in a utilitarian way.

I love ICON trucks, but the prices are far too steep, seems like 100k would get me a bronco, this will probably be even more. Also, checking buy it now prices for H1's I can get plenty for under 50k. Now I realize that it will not have 1000hp, but it will always be more capable at off roading than anything ICON throws together. -Edward

There was a stunning Scout concept in Truck Trends several years ago; in the same issue as the Dodge M80. But I've fantasized about a new reiteration of the old Dodge pickups for some time. I love the current Ram Big Rig look but it's time for something different from Ram.
