When the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class entered production last summer, we were told in the accompanying press release that its platform would support the B-Class and "a further three sporty and emotive vehicles, including a coupé and an SUV." The hidden cameras at KGP have captured the SUV part of that equation, the GLA small crossover, in the Rocky Mountains.

As best we can make out, the contours under its swirly vinyl are those of a burlier copy of the handsome A-Class, only raised off the ground. Inside is the same minimal yet well done interior we've seen in the A and the CLA, sales numbers having proved so far that the cabin is a hit with buyers around the world.

Speculation is that GLA powertrains will match those of its platform siblings, the base motor said to be the 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower four-cylinder and chassis options being front- and all-wheel drive. The Frankfurt Motor Show should be when the public gets the first naked look at it. The high-res gallery of spy shots above should suffice in the meantime.

I'm getting kind of tired of Mercedes now. STOP MAKING "AFFORDABLE" CARS! That is not what I want from a Mercedes. People drive Mercedes because they want something special that not everyone can have. That's their thing. If you make the car too accessible, it takes away from the specialness.

It's something about those vents. They just stick out so much...in a bad way. The classic squared ones would make this dash elegant. Not some chromed out holes..

You can get a brand new base Encore for $21,500 in IL near St Louis. Very temping as you can fold the front seat for almost 70 cu ft just like the CX-5 but unlike the CX-5 the reviews are getting 30+ mpg combined with 138hp turbo-4.

Then what is the point for the GLK ? That is already a petite SUV as it is.......how small can make a SUV before it nothing more then a bulbous car sitting on air pillows ?

If it could tow 5500lbs, it would be my next SUV.

I can take my 3,300 lbs Saab 9-5 and tow 4,000 with car dolly. Not sure i'd want to tow much more with a 13 year old car that puts out close to 300hp/300+trq. Plenty of accelerating for most hills in GA/TN. Though I recently towed a less than 2,000 lbs trailer with 04 Cherokee and that body on frame thing had me heading for the ditch on curvy back roads. Definfitely not like towing more weight with a car.

Looks like they forgot to but the backend on it. Is it just me or is it missing a few inches on the back?

Looks like some POS that's been left on a hot stove and then got Mercedes badged on it.
