Were we the proud owners of a Merededes-Benz 300SL, we imagine it would take a court order to pry us from the driver's seat. Even then, we couldn't promise we'd oblige the law. The team from Petrolicious seems to have found an owner who shares our frame of mind. The video below follows one SL owner as he departs for a quick run to the store to pick up some last-minute holiday items. Except, with a clear road ahead and a piece of vintage German engineering idling beneath him, the owner takes his cue to exercise the 300SL a bit.

Of course, that walk around the block may put his marital bliss in jeopardy, but sacrifices will be made. So, the story is a little corny. We'll let that slide so long as we get to peep more gorgeous shots of the red Gullwing burbling through the hills. Check out the video below for a look yourself.

Yeah this was actually the worst video I've ever seen in my life... I think if they just used "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John, instead of that total ripoff of a song, I might have been just SLIGHTLY more engaged.... This is what happens when rich people who want to make videos have no creativity... "Young Folks": http://youtu.be/51V1VMkuyx0

This car is one of the original supercars. It can take more than 2000 rpm. I realize it's a $900K car, but if you're going to make a video about it, it should be more than dawdling along. In general, I find that Petrolicious has beautiful production value, but their shorts are too focused on the fabricated plot. I think Depth of Speed has the right idea: the real story is the car, the owner, and the sound.

This video was so bad it rates a solid "9" on the "THAT WAS A WASTE OF TIME" meter.

Ridiculously cheesy and corny. What a waste of time.

How would the driving dynamics of one of these compare with, say, a BRZ? I love the old cars as much as the next guy, but I have to wonder if you can't get a better absolute *driving* experience for a tiny fraction of what these old icons are worth by taking advantage of modern technology. Or were the old designs simply better somehow?

The allure of classic cars is the amazing styling. You can't possibly find sheet metal now-a-days that even comes close to having the lines, angles, and curves of a classic Corvette, for instance.

The BRZ is probably faster in a straight line and around a racetrack/skidpad. That's not the point. I'd suggest you find someone who owns a classic like this and ask them -- Better yet, try to weasel your way into a ride. Just because a car is faster doesn't mean it's more enjoyable. Yes, a ride in a Veyron at full-tilt would be exhilarating, but a classic like this is a totally different, and perhaps more enjoyable experience.

With modern tires, most old cars drive pretty well.

I fell asleep. Did the driver die of liver failure in the end?

No! Food poisoning...come on, 300 owner, gas that puppy! Otherwise, take the Camry.

That was extremely boring. Come on man, at least gas it a bit so people can really hear it! Not saying it has to be driven super fast but at least give it a little spirit!

the point is to savor the drive......you don't have to be romping hard on a car to do so

I didn't say romp, I didn't say burnouts or drifting or top speed runs or anything of the like, but if you're going to make a video featuring a car that is arguably one of the first muscle / super cars ever made, opening it up a little is basically a requirement. Plus it's not like you'd be doing anything the car wasn't actually designed for in the first place. In the end it was a crappy boring as hell video that did almost nothing to showcase the car as it was intended.
