Although there have been plenty of rumors about the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo being canceled, it looks like BMW might be planning some visual tweaks to the odd hatchback as a possible last-ditch effort to improve sales. Judging by these spy shots, BMW is updating the front and rear fascias of the 5 Series GT, but the camouflage does a good job of preventing us from seeing what changes are in store.

This could also be some sort of performance version of the car after checking out the stylish wheels wrapped in Pirelli Sottozero 245/50R18 winter performance rubber. On the other hand, this wouldn't be the first time a company has updated an odd-looking, poor-selling model only to kill it off... we're looking at you 2013 Acura ZDX.

Still, with more than one report indicating that this model is being dropped in lieu of a station wagon version of the new 5 Series, we'll just have to wait to see what BMW has planned for the 5GT.

I have seen a grand total of 3 hideous Gran Tourismo's on the road. The only reason they were sold was I'm sure the person driving them was blind as a bat.

Ill bet they will raise the price too.... It will be even more exclusive then... Still amazing that they're going to make a 3 series based Gran Turismo too. Yuck.

I have seen exactly one of these out on the roads, and I live in a major city that loves it's premium CUV/SUVs. In an area where you are likely to see 10 or more X5s a day, only seeing one example in years is very telling. I have seen more Murano Cross Cabriolets than I have 5 series GTs. They are if anything even more ugly in person, and I completely see why they don't sell. No amount of updating to the bumper covers is going to change the hideous shape of that body.

There definitely has to be a reason why dealerships have been struggling to get the current 5 GT off the lots even with 7k discounts and I don't think it has anything to do with the grille.
