If this YouTube video is to be believed, then Chevrolet definitely did not forget to put the FAST in the COPO Camaro. Car number three and its 327-cubic-inch engine topped with the 4.0-liter blower ran what looks like an 8.88-second quarter-mile at the strip, out of the box.

That puts it at the pointy end of the three-way competition between it, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet and the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak. Ford has said the Cobra Jet will run in under 10 seconds, while the Challenger Drag Pak did a 9.43 out of the box last year. We're sure this is just the beginning of what will be a long, and very loud, rivalry. Have a look at the video below to see the latest round.

      Darn! I'm impressed as hell and I'm wondering if this thing is representative of what the COPO cars have and I'm not happy. See,I'm a MoPar guy who gennerally believes for as long as I've been around, that Chevy can get close, but rarely run with the MoPars in stock classes. This one does and then some. Most HEMI V-8 Challengers I've seen run in the mid nines and the V-10s are close to the 8s, but still in the 9 flat range. Time for Dodge to up the horsepower, this won't do. Nice job Chevy, enjoy it while you can, more Mopower is a com'n. I hope.....

        Fortunately, not true. For the first round of sales anyways, buyers were selected from a lottery. Each and every one sold thus far went to race teams not a collector.

        While I do agree that what Chevy did was very impressive; the COPO actually does have a solid rear axle. http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/31/chevrolet-copo-camaro-concept-lives-life-a-quarter-mile-at-a-tim/ "in lieu of the standard independent rear suspension setup is a straight axle that's perfectly suited to straight-line racing"

        @john m
        It's a solid rear axle (Strange Engineering S-9 solid rear axle, aluminum third member, 35-spline spool, 35-spline axles and 4.10 gear set).

      Nice, but with it not in a sanctioned event you have no idea what it weighs, or what it had done to it. They could be spraying 200hp shot on it for all we know. Once they all get teched and start running the series then we'll really get to see who is on top.

      That's pretty damn fast. I'd like to see it tested in an impartial, sanctioned event where it goes toe to toe with the competition. No video or event will ever satisfy everyone's questions or squash their conspiracy theories about how x is faster than y, but It'd still be nice to see something where we know for sure it wasn't modified. I prefer GM, but I still think for this generation, the Mustang has better looks.
