Chrysler has already sold over 84,000 minivans this year, but an unfortunate few were built with defective liftgate sensors. The 471 vehicles with the bad parts include both Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan models, all of them 2012s built in March, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report.

The power liftgates are supposed to stop during automatic closing if they detect resistance, but NHTSA says the recalled vehicles could malfunction, and "may close on an appendage." Owners should keep their arms and legs safely inside the vehicle and look for notification from Chrysler this month. Dealers will be fixing affected vehicles free of charge.

Those were the days when this used to be the hottest minivan. Now they're a joke and got lost in the game.

Why am I not surprised to see such intelligent comments regardless of the size of the recall. It's as if people don't even bother to read all of the headlines anymore either, after perfecting the skill of ignoring the posts and linked articles years ago.

Have a 11 GC just bought a riding mower with a 46"cut so the mower deck is about 50" wide.. folded the seats down (thank you stow and go) grabbed 2 2x4's put them on the bumper to the ground and drove the thing right into the back.. hated the idea of getting a minivan but once you own one and realize how versatile they are kinda hard to hate on it even if its not well regarded among its competition. Owned a couple minivans now and while this one isn't a perfect 10 by any means it is just about the most useful auto a family can own...

Ab-so-lutely. My fiance picks on my "soccer mom minivan" (she drives a Ford Edge). But guess which vehicle we used to haul 4'x8' sheets of plywood (liftgate closed!).

On my first day tailgate sign light came on and third day ended up in garage. On 8th day engine service light came on and ended up in garage. Dealers made their money..... I made wrong choice... never make same choice again... Keep away from these 2012 vans.
