It's been the better part of a year since we first brought you reports that Victoria Beckham – who had then just signed on as a celebrity "creative director" for the Range Rover brand – was set to get her own special edition of the chic new Evoque. We didn't know quite what to make of the news then – much less when the British purveyor of luxury SUVs released a teaser just a few days ago – but now JLR has taken the wraps off its glamorous new special edition, and it's not nearly as gaudy as you might think.

As you can see, the second vehicle released by Jaguar Land Rover's new Engineered To Order division (alongside the new Jaguar XJ Ultimate) is characterized by matte black paint, which contrasts with the gloss black and rose-gold trim. The interior is finished in vintage-finish tan leather, with mohair floor mats and a microsuede headliner. It also comes with a four-piece set of fitted leather luggage, and a leather portfolio carrying the owner's manual and bearing Victoria Beckham's own signature.

In other words, it's suitably posh for a vehicle resulting from a collaboration between the Land Rover Design team and the pop star who made her name as Posh Spice. Only five examples out of the 200 planned for production will make it Stateside, with no word yet on pricing. We'll also be keeping an eye out for more images of the luxed-out, matte-finish Evoque when they surface, but in the meantime you can view the solitary pic released so far in high-resolution and delve into the full press release below.

The Range Rover Evoque went on sale globally in September 2011, and has received more than 100 international awards. The Range Rover Evoque has been an unprecedented global success attracting a whole new group of customers to Land Rover.

Thanks to its unique combination of dramatic design underpinned by the brand's core credentials of capability and luxury, 70% of customers are new to the SUV segment and the Land Rover brand.

Personalization has formed a key part of the Range Rover Evoque's appeal. Each of the three standard trim levels – Pure, Prestige and Dynamic – can be further individualized with a huge range of options from alloy wheel designs and contrasting roof colors to 16 'Designer Choice' interiors.

Land Rover is now offering an exclusively designed Range Rover Evoque Special Edition created though a collaboration between Land Rover Design, led by Gerry McGovern, with Victoria Beckham, winner of the coveted Designer Brand of the Year award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards.

Gerry McGovern, Director of Design, Land Rover explains, "The design of the Range Rover Evoque has truly captured the hearts of customers worldwide. Working with Victoria, the intention was not to change the fundamental architecture and award winning design of the Range Rover Evoque. We wanted to create a Special Edition that extends its character in a new direction through understated, restrained color and detail changes. Both Land Rover and Victoria Beckham are British luxury brands with credibility and global appeal, this dual 'Britishness' makes the collaboration even more exciting especially when considering the huge audience for bespoke products around the world, particularly in China, Russia and Brazil where Land Rover is growing."

Victoria Beckham said, "I was very excited to be working with Land Rover as I have an enormous amount of respect for the brand. I've always driven a Range Rover, for me they are the epitome of quality and luxury. For me, you should feel luxury. My brand is known for quality and workmanship and so is Land Rover. So for me it felt like the perfect collaboration."

Design overview

The Special Edition will be built at Halewood manufacturing facility in Liverpool and hand-finished by Land Rover's "Engineered To Order" division (ETO).

Essential to the design is the hand-finished matte grey paint, with contrasting gloss black finishes on the roof, side, hood vents, wheel arches and wheels.

Further underlining the bespoke luxury theme of this vehicle is the use of rose-gold accents on the unique 20-inch gloss black forged alloy wheels, badging and grille surround limited solely to this Special Edition.

Complementing the ultra-modern exterior is an elegant and luxurious interior. The four sport design seats are finished in a semi-aniline Vintage Tan leather – with a hand-finished 'baseball' stitch detail, chosen by Victoria as a tongue-in-cheek reference to her sporting husband David Beckham. The same leather is also used to cover the door inserts, armrests and central storage box lid. As with the exterior, there has been application of rose-gold to the interior, on the center console rotary controls and Rotary Shifter.

Other surfaces have been deliberately understated to reflect the exterior through the extensive use of soft feel black finish on the switchgear, a piano black center console and dark textured machined aluminum.

Ultra-luxurious mohair mats and micro-suede headlining heighten the sense of occasion. The all-encompassing vision of this car extends to the cargo area which is trimmed in the same quality materials and will come with an exclusive four-piece leather luggage set lined in the same micro suede as the roof lining.

A hand stitched leather portfolio with rose-gold detailing contains a guide to the exclusive features of the car, and is co-branded Range Rover Evoque and signed by Victoria Beckham.

Victoria Beckham explains the approach, "When I first started working with Gerry and the design team, on the Range Rover Evoque Special Edition I did a lot of research, and created mood boards to show the team my love of timeless and classic design. I looked at yachts, luxury jets, classic cars, movies, personalities and fashion. It's the small detail that makes all the difference. I want everyone who gets into this car to feel special and empowered by its quality and craftsmanship. I like that it feels luxurious but also has quite a classic edge to it as well as a contemporary feel."

Land Rover Director of Design, Gerry McGovern said, "Working with Victoria in our design studio at Gaydon certainly created a buzz within the team. But we quickly recognized our similar design tastes and ambition for this car. For example at the first meeting, Victoria herself inspired the use of rose gold. She was wearing dark clothes and no jewelry apart from a rose gold, man's watch. I was struck by the juxtaposition of the masculine watch on a very elegant, feminine wrist. We both agreed it was the ideal way to introduce a softer touch to this bold, assertive exterior color scheme."

He continued, "Throughout the process we were keen to ensure that the vehicle would appeal equally to both men and women, in fact Victoria always maintained that she wanted David to be proud to drive this car. We fully enjoyed working with Victoria and I am confident this special edition will appeal to discerning luxury consumers globally. "

The Range Rover Evoque Special Edition with Victoria Beckham is limited to a maximum of 200 vehicles to be sold worldwide. The vehicle is a four-seat coupe, powered by the lightweight,
all-aluminum 240HP 2.0-liter gasoline engine and features four-wheel drive with Land Rover's
award-winning Terrain Response® system.

Design Details

Essential to the design, was the development of a hand-finished matte paint. The color also serves to highlight the inherent drama of the Evoque's design. The vehicle's carefully crafted proportions come to the fore with the use of a Santorini Black gloss finish on the roof, the sills and wheel arches, which serves to contrast the matte finish bodywork. Gloss black is further used for the hood and side vents, Range Rover lettering, lower bodywork finishers, exhaust finishers and fog lamp surrounds. Changes to the materials used in the head and tail lamps darken their appearance in keeping with the overall aesthetic.

Offering a counterpoint to the paint finish, the rose gold is applied as 'ingots' to the unique 20-inch gloss black forged alloy wheels and as a surround for the grille, which features a new horizontal bar design reserved solely for this special edition. The badges on the tailgate and in the side vents feature the Evoque name picked out in rose gold lettering.

Interior Details

Quintessential British luxury is a hallmark of both the Land Rover and Victoria Beckham brands. This special edition allows that impression to be further heightened through the use of the finest quality materials and craftsmanship, which highlight the interior ambience of the Range Rover Evoque.

Unique to this model is the vintage inspired tan dyed semi-aniline leather, which retains the grain and the softness of the hide. This eye-catching design provides an inviting counterpoint to the exterior and is finished with a hand-finished 'baseball' stitch. The same leather is also used to cover the door inserts, arm rests and central storage box lid.

A soft-feel black finish has been applied to all the switchgear while the gloss black exterior touches are mirrored in the use of a piano black veneer on the center console, bezels, door handles and air vents. Rose gold is used to subtle effect on the bezels of the center console that control the heating and ventilation and around the Rotary Shifter. Machined aluminum in a dark finish is used on the uprights that frame the center console.

Bespoke luggage completes the holistic design package that is the Range Rover Evoque Special Edition with Victoria Beckham. This four-piece set is based on the designer's own luggage range, using the same high-quality internal structure and clothed in hand stitched black leather. The set is comprised of "His and Hers" two wheeled suitcases and wash bags, all of which incorporate the micro suede used for the roof lining as a finishing touch. The zipper pulls are finished in smoked chrome, complimenting the matte grey exterior finish.

Equipment Details

Enhancing the experience for driver and passengers is the fitment of the highest levels of equipment to enhance the experience for driver and passengers. The 825W audio system is provided by British experts Meridian® and features 17-speakers and state-of-the-art amplifiers to create the company's patented Trifield® surround sound which delivers an enveloping sound experience to all four occupants.

The eight-inch touchscreen offers a myriad of control functions. This interface features graphics that give the impression of 3D on-screen buttons, supplemented by hard keys on either side which provide shortcuts to top level menu functions.

Dynamic Details

The Range Rover Evoque Special Edition has all the performance, capability and security expected of a Land Rover. The Evoque also features Land Rover's hallmark full-time, four-wheel drive and Terrain Response® system. This allows swift and straightforward optimization of the vehicle for different off-road conditions with the driver merely needing to select the appropriate program depending on whether the car is crossing grass/gravel/snow, mud and ruts, or sand, using the Terrain Response® Selector Switch.

It is powered by the lightweight, all-aluminum 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 240HP delivered to the wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddles for full driver control befitting its position as the most agile Range Rover. Further aiding the driver is the Surround Camera System which offers a 360-degree view of the car's surroundings.

Optimizing it for the best on-road driving experience is the Adaptive Dynamics system which monitors vehicle movements 1,000 times a second to offer the best balance between handling and a controlled, comfortable ride. MagneRide® dampers are filled with a magnetic fluid that allows for infinitely variable damping control.

Nimble responses are heightened still further by the Dynamic option on Terrain Response® which ties these systems together to deliver sharper handling and tighter body control for an even more rewarding driving experience. To add a real sense of occasion, automatic color changes are activated when the driver chooses the Dynamic option, changing the ambient lighting and dials to red.

A huge waste of money and gas, and probably more expensive due to having to pay off the girl to put her name on it...... How rediculous

Can we assume that Victoria knows more about cars then David?

Paying extra 20k essentially for a Ford Escape, no thanks. Give me a real Land Rover any day of this POSer.
It uses the version of the platform which underpins the Mondeo, not the Escape.
You are right, but I am not far off. It is based on Ford's EUCD platform (Mondeo), which shares many components with the C1 platform (Escape). EUCD is also known as C1+. It is good multi-purpose platform as most Volvos are also based on this. However, this platform is not designed with off-road as its primary intent (monocoque or body-on-frame).

How is the Evoque not a real Land Rover?
          @XJ Yamaha
how on earth do you think it is? If the Evoque embodies, in ANY way a "real" landrover, then Landrover is in serious trouble.
          @XJ Yamaha
Yes, Landrover clearly in trouble. Evoque is their most selling model and they had to add 1000 workers to the factory last month to keep up with the demand... You do realise what's the actual market that buys Landrovers?

How on earth is the Evoque a real Land was developed and Land Rover. It's a Land Rover. I guess if we're using your logic we should be pissing and moaning about Buicks being Opels, Dodge and Chryslers being Daimlers, etc...

"If the Evoque embodies, in ANY way a "real" landrover, then Landrover is in serious trouble." If businesses worked purely on aestehtics, you'd be right. But businesses work on making money, as the poster who responded to you tried to convey.
