When the Ford GT was announced, the company revealed that money alone would not be enough to buy the car. Prospective buyers had to fill out an application and be selected as an "ambassador." A combination of many ravenous fans and few cars meant that a lot of people applied only to eventually be rejected. But now rejected applicants will have a second chance at ownership because Ford will build the GT for an extra two years.
The third year of production will be offered to people who were wait-listed in the initial application process. The fourth and final year will be for anyone who was denied initially or missed the first application window. The company will accept new applications and updated ones starting in early 2018.
In addition to the announcement of extended production, the company added that it will continue campaigning the Le Mans class-winning GT racecars. Now the cars will compete in IMSA and World Endurance Championship events for four full years.
So if you didn't get a spot on the GT list, you've got a year and a half to polish those applications. Maybe this time you'll make the grade. And if you still don't make it, you can at least enjoy watching the GT take on the world in motorsports.
