Are you good with your hands and interested in a career in the automotive industry? Automotive technician jobs are in high demand, and even an entry-level auto mechanic salary is very attractive to a lot of workers today, especially if you begin your car mechanic career with GMC dealership certification.
Not only are GMC brand vehicles very popular with American drivers, but because GMC is a brand of GM, getting GMC dealership certified will also mean that you are a certified technician for Pontiac, Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac. Thus, you’ll have the necessary credentials to work on a wider variety of vehicles, giving you the power to ask for a higher auto mechanic salary and better benefits, even if you don’t yet have a lot of experience.
There are three basic ways to get your GMC dealership certification, including:
- Completing a GM certification program at an auto mechanic school or other technical institute.
- Completing the GM ASEP (Automotive Service Educational Program) training course.
- Taking one or more of GM’s Fleet Technical Training courses, or completing the GM Service Technical College (CTS) program.
If you opt for either of the first two of these, you’ll gain a general education about all GMC and GM brand vehicles. With the third option, you can customize your courses to focus on individual models and/or brands to meet your specific needs.
GMC certification at an auto mechanic school
By partnering with Universal Technical Institute and schools like it, GM has put together a 12-week intensive program to give students their GMC dealership certification, along with education on all other GM brand vehicles, as well.
Over the course of the program, students get classroom time led by a certified GM instructor. They’ll also get a good amount of time in online course credentials, and they’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of hands-on training, as well. Just a few of the areas that students learn about in this program include:
- Engine repair
- Maintenance and inspection *HVAC
- Steering and suspension
- Diesel engine performance
- Electrical systems and electronics
GMC certification through GM ASEP
If you’re looking for auto technician jobs at GMC dealerships or ACDelco service centers, your best option is most likely to enroll in GM’s ASEP training course. This program is specifically designed to train students to be efficient and effective technicians to gain auto mechanic jobs at GMC dealerships.
It combines hands-on training and experience with relevant core academic class work to give you the best education on becoming a great GMC auto technician and getting the job you’ve been dreaming of as quickly as possible.
Because GM has partnered with dealerships and ACDelco Professional Service Centers, finding a program locally isn’t difficult, especially if you’re located in an area with a number of GMC dealerships nearby.
GM Fleet Technical Training for GMCs
On the other hand, if you’re not interested in working for a dealership or repair shop, but you have a fleet of GMCs that you are responsible for maintaining, you may want to opt for GM’s Fleet Technical Training program. These on-site courses are reasonably priced at $215 per student per day, and they can focus on any area or vehicle that you need help with.
You can also opt for the GM Service Technical College, a package deal that includes multiple classes and a more in-depth curriculum.
However you decide to become a GMC dealership certified technician, getting this education and certification will greatly increase your possibilities for getting a better auto technician job with amore lucrative auto mechanic salary.
