Shopping for a used Porsche vehicle often leads many drivers to consider certified pre-owned options. Porsche is one of many manufacturers that have a certified pre-owned (CPO) program. Each car manufacturer structures their CPO program differently; read on to learn about the specifics of the Porsche CPO program.

In order to be considered a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned car, vehicles must be under eight years old, and have less than 100,000 miles. These vehicles come complete with a 24 month/50,000 miles Certified Limited Warranty.

Inspection

In order to ensure that every Porsche Certified Pre-Owned car is safe for the road, each vehicle must pass an inspection with more than 111 points, which includes the same mechanical and bodywork standards that all new Porsche vehicles are held to. If a vehicle cannot pass this inspection, or cannot be repaired so that it does, it cannot be considered a Porsche CPO vehicle candidate.

Warranty

Porsche CPO vehicles come with a warranty, which covers repairs or replacement within the first 24 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty requires no deductible for each service visit. This is in addition to the original six-year warranty that covers the vehicle for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date of original sale. The warranty covers the following parts:

  • Engine
  • Fuel and Cooling System
  • Powertrain and Transmission
  • Suspension and Steering
  • Brake System
  • Electrical System
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Body
  • Electronics

In case of a problem with any of these areas, the warranty covers 100% of the cost for the labor and materials.

Pricing

Buyers who choose to obtain a vehicle through the Porsche Certified Pre-Owned car program will see a difference in the overall bottom line. The price will usually be around 11% higher than a regular “used” Porsche vehicle.

For example: at the time of this article in April 2016, a used 2012 Porsche Cayman is priced around $40,146 on Kelley Blue Book; the same vehicle under Porsche’s CPO program is priced around $44,396.

Compare Porsche to other Certified Pre-Owned car programs.

Whether you decide to go with a CPO car, it's always wise to have an independent certified mechanic inspect any used car before buying it. Certified Pre-Owned does not mean the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can come with serious issues that aren't apparent to an untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for total peace of mind.
