A dump truck ran a red light and slammed into a small car, pushing it into traffic before diving off a Texas freeway overpass last weekend. Four vehicles were involved in the catastrophic crash that occurred before 9 a.m. Saturday morning in Austin, TX, WNCN reported.
A woman waiting at the traffic light caught the crash as it happened on her dashboard camera. The gravel truck barreled out of nowhere and did not heed the red light or stopped traffic. It slammed into a silver Honda that was waiting to turn right. The truck then pushed the Honda into the busy cross traffic. Leaving the Honda in the middle of the road, the gravel hauler continued its trajectory toward a cliff. It clipped several other vehicles before taking a 15-to-20 foot dive off the bridge, tumbling down to a dry river bed below, KVUE reported. The gravel truck then burst into flames.
The truck driver was saved by an unidentified person who dragged them out just in the nick of time. The cause of the crash has not been identified. Six people were injured, four people badly enough that they were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The wreck was so bad that authorities were still cleaning up until 7 p.m. that evening. Austin police are investigating the crash.
