Land Rover teases Range Rover Sport RS at the Nürburgring

Jaguar and Land Rover have been increasing their level of cooperation over the last few years. The latter is helping the former develop its first SUV, for example, but don't think that the relationship only goes one way. The former is also lending the latter its expertise in creating performance vehicles, and that will soon come to bear on the upcoming RS version of the Range Rover Sport.

Previewed in this latest teaser video, JLR is in the midst of testing its upcoming performance sport-ute on the Nürburgring, of all places, where the British automaker (along with many others) has a dedicated testing facility and where we recently drove the XFR-S Sportbrake.

Though there's admittedly little to be gleaned from the video below, its essential emergence does in effect confirm (as much as the previous spy shots we saw) that Jaguar Land Rover is hard at work pursuing the most extreme versions of the Porsche Cayenne and staying out ahead of emerging competition like the Maserati Levante and Lamborghini Urus – to say nothing of performance SUVs from the likes of Mercedes-AMG, BMW M and Audi Quattro GmbH.

Expect the Range Rover Sport RS (or whatever it's ultimately called) to pack the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 as the existing model, but upgraded to the same 542-horsepower spec as the Jaguar XKR-S, XFR-S, XJR and F-Type R Coupe, along with some other upgrades to keep all that power under control.
