Street Legal Formula-Style Racer Now Up For Crowdfunding
UPDATE: Looks like there's been a last-minute name change. Instead of the Predator's PC010 St, this vehicle is now the Egoista Motors' EM01 Stradale Project. Check out the live crowdfunding campaign here and the Facebook page here.
When the chips were down, and looked down for the count, the Caterham F1 Team launched a crowd-funding campaign to get back on the grid in time for the season finale. And now, it seems, they have succeeded.
The Caterham F1 Team, as has been widely reported, has fallen on hard times, with its new owners apparently unable to fund the effort and new investors hard to come by. But the team has found what could be at least an interim solution.
Koncept Cars Offers An Odd Duck With The Koncept S Coupe
In a crowdfunding campaign that seems destined to fail (only $5 have been raised of a $25,000 target after two weeks), we find a master class in getting people to not care about a Tesla Model S. In short, you add a new look to a car that a lot of people think doesn't need one, apparently.
A lot has happened since Sir Jack Brabham went down in history as the the only driver ever to win the Formula One World Championship in his own car. His offspring have followed in his footsteps, with two of his sons (Geoff in 1993 and David in 2009) having won at Le Mans with Peugeot. Bernie Ecclestone used the team as a springboard to seize control of F1's commercial rights. The Brabham name was subsequently adopted by a BMW tuner. And finally, Sir Jack himself left this world this past May. Bu
Imagine if a little bit of water could make your internal combustion engine run cleaner and more efficiently, and help it produce more oxygen than a tree. That's what the LeefH2 device is designed to help your motor do. HNO Green Fuels, the maker of the LeefH2, wants to turn your engine – and every other combustion engine – into an oxygen farm while reducing particulate matter and getting more power out of your fuel.
Crowdfunding has not been kind to electric vehicle projects. The Derringer electric bike, while cool, didn't make it. The ultra-fast battery charger idea raised just $2,666 out of a $50,000 goal. And there are many more failed examples. (That Kickstarter project for that EV coloring book, on the other hand, did reach its modest goal.)
Crowd-funding projects are quickly emerging as the way to get things done in the tech business, and the idea is even jumping into other fields as well. But it hasn't exactly caught on just yet in the automotive industry. A few months ago we reported on a crowd-funding campaign to revive the Castle Three Motor Company to build a retro trike roadster similar to the Morgan 3 Wheeler, and various outfits have attempted to harness the public's contributions to jump-start electric vehicle development.
Whether it's a Canadian-built Campagna or a British-built Morgan, there's something deliciously different about driving a three-wheeled retro roadster. And now it looks like they could have some competition on their hands.
Four years ago, Myers Motors was taking pre-orders for what was supposed to be a hyper-efficient, two-seat, three-wheeled vehicle, the NMG2. Then things went quiet. Real quiet. But, hey, whaddya know, there's been some activity. Thanks to tipster Sean, who was one of the original reservation holders, we have learned about Myers' new crowdfunding strategy to bring a new lower-priced EV to market. The effort will work like this:
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stirred a lot excitement in August when he released his plans for Hyperloop transportation that could go from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 30 minutes. But he made clear at the time that he wants to stay out of actually building it. Stepping up to the place is a group led by Marco Villa, former director of mission operations for SpaceX, and Dr. Patricia Galloway, a former president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, who are now out looking for backers. They'll soon
The popular crowd-funding site Kickstarter seems to be the place to look these days if you want to find really cool and unique gadgets. Gadgets like a remote control car that can turn into a quadcopter with the press of a button.
What's not to love about crowdsourcing? This idea, after all, has given us Kickstarter as well Local Motors, but automakers are starting to use the social platform to sell more cars (or just drum up a little PR). Both Dodge and Hyundai have used "crowd-funding" recently, and while Automotive News is reporting that neither has racked up big sales with this gimmick, both automakers are pleased with the attention.
MindDrive is asking for crowdfunding to get a film produced about at-risk youth driving a converted electric car coast to coast. MindDrive, a nonprofit organization based in Kansas City, MO, works with at-risk high school students in an experiential hands-on way – through building an electric car, for example.
