Best-Selling Vehicles By State
While it's always interesting to track which vehicles sell the best in any given part of the world, sometimes we find noteworthy details when we dig in a little bit closer.
For instance, while you may know that the Ford F-Series pickup is the best-selling vehicle in America, did you know that other pickup trucks outsell it in seven states? Or that there's only one state where a Japanese pickup truck leads the charts?
Click on the image above to find out which vehicles sell the best in which states, according to information gathered by Edmunds. Chances are, you'll find some surprises.

See Local DealsWe kick the list off with the Toyota Tacoma, which is the only vehicle here that isn't in the top 10 in overall sales nationally. Interestingly, though, Toyota's midsize pickup truck outsells all other vehicles in Hawaii. Although the island state is the only one of the official 50 states where the Tacoma is the top seller, it's also number one in Puerto Rico.
There are three other pickup trucks on this list, but you won't see them for a while.

See Local DealsNext up is the Toyota Corolla. It's currently the 10th-best-selling vehicle in the United States, but if you count up its combined global production over the course of its four-plus decades on sale, the Corolla is the best-selling vehicle of all time. That said, there is only one state where this Japanese compact sedan outsells all other vehicles: Florida.

See Local DealsThe Honda Civic is the best-selling vehicle in California, the most populous state in America and the one where more cars are bought every year than any other. There's only one American vehicle in California's top five. The Tesla Model 3 comes in second place, and California is the only state where the electric car cracks the top five.

See Local DealsThe first of four crossovers on this list is the Chevrolet Equinox. It's the seventh-best-selling vehicle overall in America, but number one in Michigan, home of all three major domestic automakers. You probably won't be surprised to hear that the top five best sellers in America's car-building home all come from American automakers, either.

See Local DealsThe Rogue crossover is the only Nissan to appear on this list, and it is the best-selling vehicle in just one state: New York. The Rogue just went through a complete redesign, so it will be interesting to see if it climbs the charts in any other states over the course of the next few years.

See Local DealsUp next is the Honda CR-V. It's the fifth-best-selling vehicle overall in America, but number one in Virginia, New Jersey and Connecticut. This is the last Honda to make the list and the third crossover. There's one more CUV left, and we bet you can guess what it is.

See Local DealsThe last of the crossovers on this list (and the last that isn't a full-size pickup truck) is the Toyota RAV4. Interestingly, it seems the RAV4 is particularly popular in northern coastal states on either side of the country, topping the lists in Washington, Massachusetts and Maryland. It's also the best-selling vehicle in Washington D.C.

See Local DealsThe first of America's big three domestic pickup trucks to show up on this list comes from Ram. It's important to note that this spot applies to the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 combined, and that's true of all these big trucks.
Ram's lineup outsells all other vehicles in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Nevada and Wyoming. Not surprisingly, the Ford F-Series (stay tuned for more on that) lands in second place in each of those five states.

Chevrolet Silverado

See Local DealsHere's an interesting one. The Chevrolet Silverado (in 1500, 2500 and 3500 guises) is the second-best-selling nameplate in America, but it only leads the rankings in two states: Iowa and Minnesota. In both of those states, the Ford F-Series comes in second, and the Ram series comes in third. One last tidbit: the GMC Sierra, which is a mechanical twin to the Silverado, lands in fifth spot in Iowa.

See Local DealsNo surprise here. The Ford F-Series, best-selling vehicle in America for 38 years straight, sits at the top of the rankings in the majority of the United States. We won't list them all, but there are a total of 31 states where Ford's lineup of pickup trucks leads the sales race, including truck-loving Texas. The Chevrolet Silverado earns a solid second-place finish in a whole heap of those 31 states, mimicking its position on the overall best-selling list.
