Remember when American cars only went in straight lines? Yeah, not any more. Today, US automakers screw together some of the hottest sports cars anywhere. The new, 640-horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is proof of that after it recorded a staggering 7:29.60 lap at the Nurburgring.
That's really fast. In fact, the ZL1 is close to the BMW M4 GTS' 7:27.88 Ring time from late last year. While a nearly two-second gap sounds like a lot, it's not when we're talking about a 13-mile circuit. In fact, across a track like the Ring, we'd almost call two seconds a negligible difference.
Aside from proving the new ZL1 can dance, this video should also allay any fears about the new 10-speed automatic's performance. Left in automatic throughout the video, the 10-speed drops gears quickly and at the right time, while upshifts happen lickety split. Put simply, there's no shame going for a two-pedal ZL1 this time around.
