2017 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor puts its game face on

Ford certainly caught our attention when it unveiled its new F-150 Raptor at the Detroit Auto Show this past January. And that was no simple feat for the truck's part, considering it appeared alongside the new Ford GT and Mustang GT350R. But until the new Raptor is ready for us to drive and buy, it might as well be a concept car... er, truck. Here, however, we have photographic proof that the new Raptor is indeed making its way to showrooms. And unlike the last time we saw it testing in the sand dunes, this prototype is even wearing its production front end.

As impressive as the first Raptor was, the new one represents an evolutionary leap forward. Not only is it based on the new aluminum-body F-150, but in a sign of the times if we've ever seen one, it also ditches the big, thirsty, 6.2-liter V8 in favor of a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It'll still deliver on power, though, driving an estimated 450 horsepower to all four wheels through an anticipated ten-speed automatic transmission.

Look for big knobby off-road tires and long-travel Fox Racing shocks to complete the package, along with the most badass styling this side of a naval destroyer. With development clearly progressing apace – with little regard for obstacles along the way – the new Raptor looks poised to hit the more fortunate of Ford showrooms next summer.
