Hey, remember the BMW 1 Series? Yes, German brand's successors to the US-market coupe and convertible have one-upped the old car to wear the 2 Series designation now, but in other markets, our No. 1 crush still lives on, and as evidenced in these spy shots, the entry-level hatch appears to be undergoing a modest facelift.

We've spotted prototypes of the refreshed 1 Series before, with the majority of the car's changes focused around the front fascia. This time around, we're seeing the three-door variant, with wheels seemingly fitting of a Sport or even M Sport trim.

Of course, this One's not for US, as the small BMW isn't slated to come to our market anytime soon. Click through the gallery above to see what we're missing.

God damn I want one of these. I saw them all over Germany in 2006, and I loved it.

I realize I'm a niche buyer in the US that I want a premium hatchback, and that sucks.

You're not the only one buddy. There are a lot more hatchback lovers in the United States that you're led to believe and they should sell these hatch here. It's a damn shame we miss out on so many great hatches.

My biggest automotive regret is not getting a Z3 hatch back in the day. I might buy one of these if they ever bring it over.

As I pulled it up, I thought it was a modern take on the AMC Gremlin!  All that is missing is the round headlights.

4 doors would be nice. A cool little wagon.

It is not quite as ugly as before, just almost. I still like it though and would buy it maybe someday.

Is this what you get when you cross a VW GTI with a 2 series BMW? BMW needs to clean sheet their 1 series design.

The front of their vehicles were and are long over-due for a makeover  All the same frumpy front end.. reminded me of the terrible front ends of Pontiacs where the front end of the following vehicles all looked the same:

      - G3

      - G5

      - G6

      - G8

      - Sunbird

      - Sunfire

      - Vibe

      - Torrent

      - Grand Am

      - Grand Prix

I'd rather have a BMW Isetta than any modern BWM

      note to self: excellent post

Much better than before.  Still don't think the hofmeister kink works on a hatchback very well.
