Ford is recalling 6,308 units of the 2012 and 2013 Focus Electric and 2013 Focus ST that were fitted with HID headlights because a "wiring incompatibility" could keep the front side marker lights from working. A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall should begin in the middle of this month, after which owners can take their cars to dealers to have the wiring assembly repaired free of charge.

You can find more information in the NHTSA bulletin posted below.

Report Receipt Date: AUG 01, 2013
NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V335000

Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Number of Units Affected: 6,308
Vehicle Model Year(s) Make Model: 2012-2013 FORD FOCUS
Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company

SUMMARY:
Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

CONSEQUENCE:
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in mid-August 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Can't wait for you to get banned again... If you think a recall of 6000 cars for a side marker light requires involved defense and explanation you should probably evaluate your life and get off Autoblog for a while...

He posted in that SAME article with two CONFIRMED different log ins. "Aaronm_mt This just in, Honda Civic the ONLY compact car to ace the IIHS Overlap crash test. http://www.hondasacuras.com/2013/08/honda-civic-safest-small-car-most.html" Weird, Toronto St. Paris also cites that website. Add another name for aaronm_mt.

Am I supposed to care about a headlight recall? Does this have anything to do with me at all? No.

LOL. Nice way to try and act like you don't inflict your opinion on any other article that has nothing to do with you, either. You always compare cars like this to the Jesus endorsed Evo. So here's just another way for you to make an idiotic comparison. Not only is the Evo faster and has AWD but it also has proper HID wiring.

Then why are you in the comments? If I see an article I don't care about, I don't bother with the comments.

I have a Focus Electric and I LOVE it. I've been thinking about dropping my truck and getting an ST, too. Those things are FUN to drive.

Wow. Huge recall. Hate to see the reaction to the missing valve-stem caps for Chrysler.

Dear God No! Not the side marker lights! NOT THE SIDE MARKER LIGHTS! Won't someone please help the Children! (if a light that is essentially useless doesn't work, won't it maybe go a little further?) And.... Who knew they sold over 6,000?

        @EZEE
6,000 is for the FFE and ST combined. The electric has sold about 1500 so far I think so it is mostly the ST.

Not exactly a great start Again Blue Oval. But like one poster here has said " Who needs Lights ? " . Must be a fan. While the Focus ST gives enthusiasts another choice .... please Ford work on the quality ! Mike Roe has another dirty job ahead of him ! Convince consumers the cars are reliable !
