Forgive us for having the distinct feeling of déjà vu, but it certainly feels like we've been here before. By that we are referring Car and Driver and the announcement of its annual 10Best vehicles for 2013. To be sure, it's an impressive selection of cars that combine heart-pounding performance and frugal sensibilities, but it also represents something of a broken record on the part of C/D. We're not so sure that's a flaw, though, as the resulting list is tough to argue with.

Vehicles like the Ford Mustang, Porsche Boxster, and BMW 3 Series have maintained their high-horsepower spots on this list for several years now. Even on the more practical and nimble end, the Honda Accord, Honda Fit and Mazda Miata have not budged. These continued spots are even in light of redesigns for some vehicles such as the Accord, Boxster and 3 Series.

In fact, the only newcomer to the 10Best list this year are the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins, which knocked out the Cadillac CTS-V. We think it would have been a huge misstep to have excluded the FR-S/BRZ, even in light of the supercharged Caddy's lamentable departure from 10Best.

Without further ado, here are 2012 Car and Driver 10Best winners:

After perusing our gallery of the winners, bounce on over to Car and Driver to check out the full 10Best roundup, along with a collection of videos on each car. Be sure to let us know in Comments what you think of this year's list!

Seems like it would be the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ or the Mazda MX-5 Miata. In my mind they occupy the same segment and one or the other is the best.

I think this should've been the year where the 3-series drops off the list.

I think the F30 3-series can hang on for now. The interior is a great step up, apparently a trade for the steering feel. I noticed they started using Chinese window glass, though.

Focus on the Ten Best list... I own a 2012 Focus and while the majority of the car is wonderful, Ford has a long way to go in making it 'Ten Best-worthy.' I'm not even talking about the DCT or MFT here. My car sounds like the suspension is going to fall out of it, and I'm not the only one. See here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302183 And here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267513 Best part is that Ford won't even help owners fix what seems to be a possible structural deficiency on one of their best selling cars. Sure, they have enlisted a crew of Customer Service reps to reach out to owners, but every time someone takes their car into the dealership, the dealer staff pretends that either there isn't an issue, it's normal, or they even give attitude.

Why Camry Hybrid over the Fusion Hybrid? The Fusion is getting almost Prius MPG figures

The Mustand is already on there once, idiot. The Fit stays. Camry isn't a top ten best.

Maybe drop the A6 and add the Tesla Model S since they're in the same segment. Not the Camry Hybrid or the GT500.

How much does Honda pay them again? I forget.... Honda Accord is no where near the Ford Fusion/Mondeo... Almost like different classes of cars... and the Fit? The Accord is the shocker to me... Almost seems like a pay-off...

        @Dane Grant
Why is it that whenever someone's personal favorite isn't chosen by a magazine, fanboys accuse them of taking a payoff? I suppose Ford, VW and BMW have been paying bribes to Car and Driver for years too, right? The new fusion is cool but I can understand why the accord gets picked for the top 10 year after year. Drive one -- without letting your biases get in the way -- and you might understand.

"The Accord is the shocker to me... Almost seems like a pay-off..". How do you figure? The Accord has not only beaten the Fusion in comparisons held by several different publications, it's widely heralded as a return to form by many of those who publically recognized the current Civic for the piece of retrograde crap it is.

Dude, the Fit is an excellent car. If I were to chose one Honda, that would be it.

Audi A6/A7/S6/S7 - getting tired of the Audi hype..oooh it's got purrty lights BMW 3 Series - in this segment, perhaps this is their favourite Ford Focus/Focus ST - really? with all the transmission and MFT issues? Ford Mustang GT/Boss 302 - Good choice, seems like the best muscle car out there. Honda Accord - Honda hit the bulls-eye with the 2013. Honda Fit - eh...a bit old isn't it? Mazda MX-5 Miata - oh please...I'm so tired of this car. so overrated. Porsche Boxster - I think the 911 is better. Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ - I can get behind that. Volkswagen Golf/GTI - again kinda old...or at least the idea. Bring back the Scirrocco or Corrado

911 doesn't qualify, only cars $80k and under. I do like the new cayman though

I think the Honda Fit and VW GTI are arguably the weakest choices here due to their ages. A new GTI is arriving soon and Honda really needs to update the Fit. Maybe the Tesla S or Fusion?

C&D's Top 10 list has lost a lot of credibility with me over the years. For example although the new Accord is quite good, they kept it on the list even when it was regularly losing comparison tests for having such old tech like outdated transmissions, etc. And then they have the habit of putting direct compeitors - like the Focus/ST and Golf/GTI - on the list. They couldn't pick one and slot something else on there, perhaps in a different class of vehicle? I think they should update their list to be more category based. Just MHO.

The Accord lives on the 10 best list. It has been living there for 27, 28 years. No sign of eviction. To translate my corny metaphore, the Honda Accord is Car and Driver's favorite family sedan. And it will always be so unless something else in their opinion can dethrone it.

It's more than a refresh. It's brand new from the ground up. It may have familiar styling, but that's a good thing for people who enjoy continuity.

Actually it is the same as the last Gen, they just improved on it drastically that it qualifies as next gen. To be more specific. The unibody fram is the same as the last gen Accord. From that point on, it has all new engibeering everywhere else.

The Accord is nice but the new 13 Fusion is to my eyes looks more edgy and drives better.
