2011 Opel Corsa
Opel's upcoming 2011 Corsa ecoFlex model, powered by a 1.3-liter CDTI turbodiesel, boasts an impressive fuel economy rating of 53 miles per gallon (U.S.) and an equally noteworthy CO2 emissions of 98 grams per kilometer. Credit the 95-horsepower, 140-pound-foot engine; stop-start technology; and an optimized five-speed transmission with taller gearing for the ecoFLEX model's fuel-sipping status.
The Corsa ecoFLEX accelerates from 0-62 miles per hour in 12.3 seconds and hits a top speed of 110 mph. That won't exactly light the pavement on fire, but it's 28 percent more powerful and ten percent more fuel efficient than the model it replaces. Despite the ecoFLEX's impressive numbers, the VW Polo BlueMotion – a competing model in Europe – is slightly more fuel efficient; returning 59.4 mpg (U.S.) and emitting 87 g/km of CO2.

And, they will be the first to see the new enhancements on the Corsa which now joins the new Opel design family with a facelift and new colors that jazz up its looks. The new Corsa ecoFLEX 1.3 CDTI developing 70 kW/ 95 hp now features Start/Stop technology as standard. The three-door version requires only 3.5 liters diesel per 100 km and emits just 94 g/km CO2. Currently, both the Corsa and Agila offer start/stop technology which helps reduce emissions, especially in cities where traffic is heavy. By the end of next year, all Opel carlines will offer this fuel-saving technology.
New upgrades in the Antara have produced a completely new contender in the compact SUV segment. Based on customer feedback, Opel has revamped the Antara's powertrain, creating three fuel efficient engines with more performance and fun in handling in both the front and all-wheel drive versions. Customers will also notice a significantly quieter ride, too. Naturally, the enhancements also include design changes like eagle eye headlamps and the bold grille, making the chic crossover easily identifiable as a member of the Opel family.
Opel is leading the effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuel and the proof will be visible in Bologna. The Opel Ampera, Europe's first electric family car with revolutionary technology goes on sale late next year. New face gives the Corsa expressive, up-market tone
In 2010, everything changed under the Corsa's skin – its chassis, its steering system and engine line-up. This January, Opel's successful small car now gets a new wardrobe that includes trendy, creative colors and new trims as well as an extended Color Line offer that allows drivers to personalize their look. The new Corsa makes its premiere at the Bologna Motor Show.
The Corsa redesigned face adds a sportier, expressive look, making it firmly recognizable as a member or the latest Opel design family. Inside and out, new, contemporary colors and decors are offered on all versions. In addition to a modern charcoal hue, the interior can also be dressed with more expressive Tabasco Orange or Steel Blue decors. The new exterior color palette integrates a delicate off-white Guacamole, an eye-catching Grasshopper green and a daring Henna.

To stay connected with the world, a new multimedia infotainment system with seven, 4x20 watt loudspeakers debuts in the Corsa. Called "Touch & Connect," this versatile 21st century system features a five-inch color touch screen, full navigation coverage for 28 countries, Bluetooth, iPod and USB connections. It is universally connectible, simple to use and has every convenience built in – at a very competitive price.
The Corsa family continues to develop its special, trendy models, called the Color Line series. The successful Color Edition with its black painted roof and high gloss black 17-inch wheels, bright exterior colors and lots of extras already accounts for about 20 percent of all Corsa sales in Germany. As a result of the overwhelming response, Opel is introducing the Color Edition across all of Europe, including Italy.
A new "Linea" pack has been created to attract young customers looking to personalize their Corsa. It features two large white or black stripes along the Corsa body. The color of its 17-inch alloy wheels and side mirror caps is coordinated with the stripes.
Corsa's popularity has caught on. Its share in the small segment this year has increased in many European markets such as Italy, the UK, Spain and Germany. Italy is the third most important market for Corsa, accounting for about 15 percent of all sales.
World Premiere: New Opel Antara offers urban chic and off-road capability
The new Opel Antara pairs sporty, off-road capabilities and urban-chic looks with high functionality and safety. With improvements to its powertrain line-up, exterior styling and interior comfort, the Antara can now be seen as a serious competitor in the growing SUV segment.
The most notable changes in the new Antara, first seen in Bologna, are in the powertrain. The fully re-worked engine line-up, all Euro-5 compliant, now offers improved driving performance as well as significantly reduced consumption and emissions. Even the two available transmissions – a six-gear manual and automatic – have undergone completely new developments to improve efficiency and dynamics. Drive quality, too, has improved massively.
The finely-tuned chassis means the Antara is agile enough to maneuver its way through tough terrain, yet comfortable – and quiet – enough for daily drives to the city or soccer pitch. Moreover, engineers have listened to customer feedback and dramatically improved interior acoustics, meaning a quiet, comfortable ride for gasoline and diesel Antaras alike.
On the street, the Antara turns heads with its chic, upscale look. Its new, front grill with bold logo makes it immediately recognizable as a member of the new Opel design family. The fog lights together with chrome bezels and a well-blended pedestrian protection lends the vehicle a harmonious look with a strong presence. Modified rear lights and optional 19-inch light-metal wheels help to round out the robust look.
Inside, too, it has maximized comfort, with new colors for a contemporary, stylish look and optimized materials and storage space for added well-being. The new Antara's standard electric park brake means more room for storage between the front seats. A casual chic look is achieved from new fabrics, new materials and added colors in the interior and exterior. An optimized instrument graphic and effective interior lighting underscore the prestigious ambiance.
Italian Premiere: Astra Sports Tourer brings style and practicality to its class
The new Astra Sports Tourer brings style, practicality and eco-friendly technology to the compact wagon segment, giving owners the flexibility to combine professional and private use in one vehicle.
Sharing the same Opel design DNA and Sports Tourer name as its larger Insignia counterpart, the Astra Sports Tourer also introduces a similar focus on first class quality and functionality. The sculpted shape encapsulates a cabin with all the widely-acclaimed attributes of the Astra hatchback, while adding an ample cargo carrying capability. Space-efficient trunk design, enabling an impressive load volume of up to 1,550 liters, is complemented by smart, upscale features such as the new FlexFold Rear Seats - a system which folds the rear seatbacks at the touch of a button.
The Astra Sports Tourer's athletic looks are backed by an equally athletic driving experience. The new wagon shares the same innovative rear suspension and mechatronic FlexRide chassis as its hatchback peer. Other class leading features such as AFL+ adaptive forward lighting and medically-approved ergonomic front seats add comfort and safety to the driving fun on offer.
A wide powertrain choice of nine fuel-efficient engines provides a bandwidth from 70 kW/95 hp to 132 kW/180 hp. Fuel-saving Start/Stop technology will be first introduced on the 1.3 CDTI engine (70 kW/95 hp) early next year, resulting in CO2 emissions as low as 109 g/km. This powertrain also will be offered in the five-door sedan version of the Astra, resulting in CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.
In addition to reducing fuel bills, Opel engineers are leading the industry in minimizing damage repair costs from low speed crashes – the most frequent, according to insurance companies. As a result, new Astra owners can expect to pay some of the lowest annual insurance premiums in the segment.
The Astra Sports Tourer will build on the momentum generated by the outstanding sales success of its hatchback partner. In recent years approximately 25 percent of all Astra model sold in Europe were wagons.
With the Opel Ampera, future mobility starts now
Electric mobility is the best solution for reducing automobile emissions and dependency on petroleum, but if electric vehicles are to have a significant benefit on the environment and society, they must be attractive to a wide variety of buyers, not just people living in urban or suburban areas. Now this ambitious goal has become considerably easier to reach – with the revolutionary Ampera electric car.
The majority of drivers will find an electric car, such as the Ampera, remarkably easy to accept. That is because in addition to a powerful, 16 kWh lithium-ion battery, it has a unique electric propulsion system that extends its driving range. While providing all the benefits of state-of-the-art battery electric vehicles, such as zero tailpipe emissions and spirited performance, the innovative Ampera is not compromised by the typical disadvantages, such as limited range or long hours of immobility spent recharging the large battery.
That makes the five-door, four-seat Ampera the first electric car in Europe to give owners the freedom to drive wherever, whenever they want, with no worries of being stranded with a depleted battery.
Opel Agila with Start/Stop for low CO2 and noise in the city
Opel offers Start/Stop technology not only on the Corsa, but also on the Agila 1.2 l (69 kW/94 hp) gasoline together with a Euro 5 upgrade and a CO2 engine optimization package, delivering significant fuel economy in urban driving. The Agila 1.2 liter 94 hp (69 kW/118 Nm) requires 5.0 liters of gasoline per 100 km and emits 116 g CO2 with Start/Stop technology, some 2.5 percent less than the same engine without this feature. In the urban cycle, Start/Stop decreases emissions by 4.2 percent.
This ecoFLEX technology continues in January with the Astra range starting with the 1.3 CDTI as part of the Start/Stop rollout. By the end of 2011, all major Opel carlines will offer this CO2-saving innovation.
With the introduction of the Start/Stop technology Opel continues to strive towards its goal in lowering fuel consumption and emissions. The brand is committed to working on a range of innovations that can reduce and ultimately displace oil dependency, minimize CO2 emissions and encourage energy diversity.
Start/Stop technology is most advantageous for city driving, the natural habitat for the Agila. The principle is simple: An engine which is not running cannot consume fuel. Instead of idling at a traffic light or train crossing, the engine will automatically stop when the driver engages the neutral gear and releases the clutch pedal. When the traffic light turns green, drivers simply press the clutch pedal to restart the engine, shift into first gear and take off. Naturally, the heating performance, power steering and brake performance is maintained to keep occupants safe and comfortable even while the engine is temporarily off. By eliminating idling time, engines emit less greenhouse gases and, importantly, create less noise.
