Aussie police trying out wicked Volvo S60 Polestar patrol car

A police car needs to be both fast and subtle. Spacious but inconspicuous. Affordable but comfortable. Few cars fill this bill, but the Australian Federal Police figures it found a good one in the form of the Volvo S60 Polestar.

Deliciously invisible thanks to its Volvo styling and impressively quick courtesy of Polestar's 329-horsepower Performance Optimization package, the S60 is currently being evaluated by the AFP, where officers will put it through its paces in the Australian Capital Territory (it's like a down under District of Columbia).

"By doing this, we can obtain direct feedback on how the S60 performs from our officers who are out on the road, day and night, in all manner of driving conditions," AFP Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said in a statement from Polestar. "We are particularly interested in our officers' opinions on the all-wheel-drive capability of the S60 and what advantages it offers over our current rear-wheel-drive fleet."

It's unclear if or when the S60 will enter the AFP's fleet, although based on our experiences with both police cars and Polestars, we think the Aussies might be onto something good.
