There is a point at which the amount of money poured into any aftermarket-tuned vehicle becomes entirely insane. Heck, that's half of the appeal of tuner cars – that the best ones show such fanatical devotion to a specific model that you must respect the inspiration and effort even when the result is utterly unimaginable. Which brings us to this: A $156,000 BMW 1 Series.

Now granted, it's not just any 1'er that German übertuner Tuningwerk is selling for more than a Porsche 911 Turbo. There's a 1 M Coupe in there somewhere, one that's been fitted with 19-inch wheels and some of the widest tires we've ever seen on a compact BMW: 245/35R19 up front and 285/30R19 in the rear. Available 15-inch carbon ceramic rotors from Mov'it provide stopping power for the 521-horsepower, 453 pound-foot of torque upgrade to the twin-turbo inline six. The car also carries a whole host of carbon fiber body parts, from hood to trunk to even optional carbon fiber doors.

The bottom line is that Tuningwerk says its 1 M RS will do 186 mph. Scroll down to read the full press release and be sure to check out all the photos in our gallery.

Uncompromising 1st M RS BMW with 521 HP by TUNINGWERK

The fact that the TUNINGWERK company specializes in BMW models, has geographical grounds, as Puchheim is a catchment area of Munich and probably rather the other way round. The BMW head office is situated in Munich. On the other hand, the question was only in time for the well-acknowledged BMW models that the 1st BMW M-Version would appear. TUNINGSWERK has given it no other name than the 1st M RS.

The motor, also referred to as engine, was completely modified. The transmission of the back axis was shortened up to 3.25 transmission ratios, optionally 3.45 are also possible. As a differential locking it has a suitable for the power to weight ratio Drexler lock. The cooling system was completely modified, including the second oil cooler. The model has a titanic exhaust system. The engine clutch has unconditionally optimized stability, it is well suited for the city traffic, and herewith a racing clutch is possible. But for eventually planned racing some further small modifications for the FIA admission are needed, such as the expansion of the case. There is still much potential in further weight reduction, while the door trims and insulation material is in the original state. GT4 front lip, engine hood, boot lid and also rear spoiler and Recaro seats called PolePosition are made of carbon. It is possible to install doors out of the same material and plastic side glass, however with the full case. The 3-x club sport lorry running gear can be combined with H&R lightweight stabilizers upon request.

The important connection between the vehicle and the road in this case is provided by the forged ATS superlight 9x19 inches rims on the front and 10x19 inches rims – on the back. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with 245/35R19 Dunlop blow-up „Sport Maxx" tyres on the front axis and 285/30R19 ones – on the rear axis. As an alternative, there are also FlowForming Crosslight ATS rims of the same size. The car has installed steel breaking system with discs 370 mm in diameter by Mov'it to take care of the perfect stop, where the 380 carbon ceramic discs are also possible.
Due to this balanced mix of tuning means, the TUNINGWERK succeeded in creating the driving dynamics of an outstanding quality. The six three-liter cylinders with 521 hp or 388 kW enable 614 Nm maximal torque from 2,800 rpm and maximal speed of 300 km/h (depending on the type of tyres!) This 1st M RS BMW by TUNINGWERK is undoubtedly a perfect compromise between the street and the race track.

The car tuning costs including vehicle: 119.000 Euro!

Given the rarity of 1Ms, this may just appreciate in value.

$186k sounds pretty cheap for something that looks and probably moves like a touring car

Wing's not to my taste, but looks terrific otherwise. Bet it's a hoot to drive

How hard should it be to get 520hp out of a 3 liter turbo? I think 16-17 lbs of boost should do it. The only question is if the seals and bottom end are up for it. A competent shop should be able to build a similar motor for not too much $$$...

521hp and only 186mph? I know it's square and probably has plenty of downforce, but I would think it would go faster.

Could be gearing limited. But honestly, 186 mi/hr is plenty fast for a stubby little car like the 1 M!

Maybe they focused more on acceleration, more akin to Group B rally cars.

Good times, Gruppe B. They need to bring back 400hp RWD rally cars (just before Group B) as a serious class. A guy used to bring an aluminum 410cubic inch Fox-body Mustang to the 100 Acre Wood Rally. Even on pavement, even when it was going straight, it wasn't really going straight. The back end kept saying, ME FIRST! ME FIRST!

186 mph = 300 kph; it's probably just where they decided to set the limiter.

Why get this when you can get a sweet riding mower for $5k and use the rest of that $151k for mods?

I love my 135i. But if I had $156k to spend it would be for a porsche 911 turbo.

Lol @156,000$ for 500+hp and 185mph. My 10,000$ big block cutlass does that. Silly Germans.
