Let's take a moment to praise the original Acura NSX, a previously unimaginable coupe from an equally unimaginable source that, as Lexus did with luxury, put every supercar maker on notice. Only the NSX went further than anything Lexus ever did; after all, there's no clamor today for Lexus to make another car in the spirit of the LS 400.

Now, enthusiasts and NSX owners wait, hoping that the 2015 Acura NSX channels everything that made its (by then) 25-year-old ancestor so great.

And that's why Honda has compiled more than seven minutes of NSX video eye candy, with special attention paid to the Le Mans car and the NSX-Rs. You'll find it after the jump.

      Some of you naysayers really need to do something: Go to honda's press site (google it), go to the archives and find the articles in the late 80s/early 90s about the NSX. Read them; you might learn something. I say this because while it's true that the original NSX stood by a pure and exhilarating driving experience (as did all other Hondas back then, as well, as you'll read in the articles), the goal was never to build a simple, rwd, manual sports car. The NSX was one of the most advanced cars of it's time, and had many firsts under its belt, not just it's aluminum body. The NSX was made to be a supercar without the drawbacks of typical supercars of the era. A car with a terrific power/weight ratio, great balance, easy to live with every day, and exhilarating to drive. THAT's how this new NSX is a true successor; it's a technologically progressive car that aims to meet the same goals. The NSX only became a simple car because it was in production for 15+ years. When it came out, COMPLICATED, but that didn't mean it wasn't pure. The innovations were endless: drive-by-wire throtle, variable valve and lift (first in a North American car), titanium engine rods. This was weird sh!t when the NSX came out. We have yet to see if Honda will be able pull that off once again (hopefully they will), but know that progressions such as a hybrid powertrain and AWD don't make this car any less of an NSX. The core of the NSX is in its design philosophy, which, from what we can see so far, hasn't changed.

        Just remember what the NSX acronym meant: New Sportscar eXperiment. I think the fundamental thing is to be a competitive sportscar/supercar. For years the NSX had a hard time competing due to the 280PS restriction from the Japanese's Gentlemen Agreement. I'd like to see how this car would stack up against other Exotics. Hopefully like the GTR did when it came out so that jealous people had to find lame excuses to criticize it. Only Skepticism is: Independent Hybrid drive like this concept had always been for show and never made it to production. Even if you do only a V6 drive is available if the electric motor is out of juice. So as I'd always say: V8 Power!

        Now, the loss of a manual transmission is sad, but understandable considering the direction of supercars as of late. Remember, the NSXs goal is and has always been to match and/or exceed supercars of the day in performance and exhilaration, while still being a car that's practical to live with every day. It makes sense that it would follow the trend towards DCTs. HOWEVER, there is hope...I seem to remember Honda pioneering a manual transmission/hybrid engine combo. CR-Z anyone?

      Oh how I long for the mid 90's to return. As a true enthusiast this was my favorite era hands down. NSX, Integra GSR, Supra TT, MR2 turbo, 300zx TT,240sx, 3000gt TT, Eclipse GSX, Prelude, Civic Si, and my favorite car of all time the FD RX-7. Yeah I am a little bit of a JDM fanboi but, man were those all bad ass rides.

        A list of cool cars for sure. The Japs surely dominated most of the 90s. Lately, the Japanese don't have much in the name of fun to brag about when it comes to real world cars.

      I won't criticize the NSX till it's made.. These kinds of premature criticisms are also thrown at the original NSX when it's still in the progress.. But when it was already completed, none of those critics could've predicted that we are still seeing so many NSX on the roads until now..

      Call me an oldie, but there's something about pop-up headlights that make sports cars that have them so much better looking than their fixed headlight successors. Prime examples: NSX, Miata, Corvette, F355 (although I do love the F360 as well), Toyota MR2 (although I don't really count the MKIII as a direct successor because so much of the original idea changed), RX7, and Mitsu 3000GT, just off the top of my head. Each of those had pop-ups in at least one generation and then switched to fixed in a subsequent generation. And each time (to me anyway), they seemed to have lost something....maybe a bit of the aggressiveness? Or purposefulness? I wish there was a modern update to the hidden headlights that still met all of the safety regulations (GINA doesn't count...doesn't seem to be manufacturable). I mean, we can have roof-length skylights with moving glass but we can't get headlights to hide away when we don't need them? I'm sure we can also figure out some way to still keep DRLs, but I digress...

        We must be of the same bloodline, because I completely agree and I haven't heard this from anyone else. All the predecessors with their hidden/pop-up headlights seemed to have such a much-more aggressive look to them.

        So true! It's the same when 1 Volt accidentally caught fire and it was completely demonized. On the other hand, Ferrari 458's were burning up left and right and no one gave a rats ass. I know it's a Ferrari and all but still!

      One of the biggest thrills I had as a teenager (when I was 19) was being allowed to drive the NSX for all of 5 minutes... it's the first car I ever saw that truly took my breath away and the dealer where I was buying my second Prelude from was very kind to a car obsessed teenager. Hopefully the new NSX sparks a renaissance at Honda. It would be nice to see Honda making sports cars again (like the S2000, the Integra Type-R, even bringing back the Prelude). Who knows as there's an interest again in small Japanese sports coupes maybe it will happen.

      The NSX was true supercar representative from Japan, done unlike anything the Americans or Germans could do...it is light, powerful, and surprisingly easy to drive every day. I will always clamor for one, hope to get the opportunity to own one! I have to say though, as the owner of an original 1991 LS400, I do think Lexus should build their LS like this 1st Gen model...it's unbelievably nice to drive. It's not all about absolute quiet and soft seats like the current car....it drives and handles well, and IMHO has a nice style to it with plenty of power. It doesn't feel as disconnected from the road as modern Lexus cars either. Wish the prices were lower too, guess that's the trick the Genesis is trying to use these days.
