A 2012 BMW M5 and free rein at California's legendary Laguna Seca circuit sounds like a near-perfect way to spend a day. BMW agrees with that line of thinking, and it was kind enough to bring a long a camera. Well, you could easily replace "kind" with "annoyingly torturous" since we aren't the ones wearing the helmet and driving suit.

Regardless, we still enjoyed the clip and we think you will too – especially when you hear just how ruthlessly the sound from 560-horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 assaults your eardrums. Click past the jump to check it out.

Hmm, nah. I'm sure this car is better in every measurable way than its predecessors, but...it doesn't sound nearly as good as the E39 or the E60 with it's amazing V10

It can'r sound as good as the E39 or E60. In this case, the music in the video is a good thing. It's better to just forget about the kind of cars this company use to produce...otherwise it just hurts more.

The video needed more engine sounds and less background music. M5 sounds amazing! :)

I say let the 2012 Boss 302 have at it and then smack the M5's mama in the face for producing an overpriced fake sports care......... waiting for the reads heads to explored....... just kidding, I would still buy one, but the Boss would win :)

Odd post-production in that video. The few times you could hear the car, yes it sounded unreal. The completely out of place lounge music? Not so much.

This vid is ******* weak sauce. The car is great, but the sound editing is shite, and there's nothing beyond standard issue for the shots. Who the **** got hired to film the new supersedan of the year, yet cranked out this rough cut p.o.s.?

I love that it sounds like flat-plane crankshaft V8. Sounds more racing! I hate that they made the M3 with cross-plane crank, they should've make it like the racing car. Cross-plane V8 noise is for muscle cars and trucks IMO. Sporty BMW needs a racing engine screamy noise. So, love that about that M5. Don't really care how this headers make more power, the best about them is the noise!

V10 with Kreissieg or Eisenmann exhaust sounds much better. On another note, I thought the way to test the "handling" of a car was to do it at full opposite lock. Oh wait, that's only on Top Gear.
