'Boo' yourself, Paukert! Why can't you 'go there' regarding Jalopniks redesign?  It's horrible and you know it.  These blogs aren't vanity projects (like hooniverse). They need to serve their readers and their advertisers, and change for change's sake is a risky endevor. Boo indeed.

Came here to ask about "vanity project", but Jeff beat me to it.

I prefer "hobby" or "creative outlet" to vanity project, but given that I found it b/c it came up in my google alert for "Hooniverse"...maybe there's some truth there. ;)

        Uncle.

I guess I just feel like there's enough stuff to talk about without resorting to tattling on classmates. Okay. I'm done.

There's all kinds of behind the scenes pressures and masters to serve for a show like Top Gear or a car blog or a magazine. You as a reader or viewer only get part of the story, we as industry insiders also only get part of the story. While it may be amusing to listen to us go off half-informed on the podcast, I'm not a regular watcher of Top Gear, and I work in TV so I look at it and realize all the stuff that's going on BEHIND the cameras with that show. Our competitors, well, they've got some of the same pressures and challenges we do, and then they have their own unique ones, too. Talking about site redesigns is more of a topic you'd see on UX podcast, innit?

I just mean Hooniverse is traditional blog while AB is a source for journalism ...and a business.

Mr. Paukert with the class reply. I think that's why I prefer not to devolve into inside-baseball name calling on the podcast. Class.

        Gotcha.

Though hooniverse IS a lovely tax write off too...

Chris: would you PLEASE give Dan that raise already. I'm sick of the sycophantism. :)

Dan: why does it have to be name calling? Why can't it be a discussion like every other topic?
Do those same behind the scene pressures not occur at the automobile manufactures you critique in great detail every week?

I sincerely fail to see your point Dan, but we can drop it if you like. Otherwise I'll argue all night. :)
What do you mean that Hooniverse is vanity project?
Well now... seems Rachel Maddow agrees with me re: Jalponik. If you haven't heard she called out the "fussy" redesign on her show last night. I was watching. It was weird. True, but weird.

Aww shucks. Thanks for replying, Chris

I just don't understand the unwillingness to debate topics that aren't strictly car related.

Top Gear America is another good example. It makes me (and I'm sure many other listeners) feel like Chirs and Dan are under a gag order.

What's the deal? Why is criticizing a competitor (and I use that term very loosely) and a TV show off limits?

I'd much rather hear your opinions on these topics than partake in the minutia riddled romps the 'cast often gets caught up in.

        Anyways...

        Lucas.

Great comment at 58:30 about AMGs that are now affordable. My daily driver is a 2001 E55 AMG that I picked up for $17k. It is expensive on gas and tires (especially snows) but it's a very comfortable car with great performance.

Mustang doesn't win anymore... For the month of Feb, Camaro sold twice as Mustang.
