Let's see, Hertz will rent out the all-electric Coda Sedan in California next year, has a low-CO2 "Green Collection" in Europe and is looking forward to offering the Nissan Leaf in that car's early target markets in 2011. So, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the rental car giant is also interested in putting you behind the wheel of the tiny Smart Fortwo Electric Drive. What is somewhat surprising is that the diminutive city car will be available to rent and car share starting December 15. That's next Wednesday.
The Smart ED will only be offered in some Connect by Hertz car sharing and Hertz Rent A Car locations, namely those in New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. The first units will be put into the Connect by Hertz car-sharing network in New York City next week. Sure, people in Austin, TX can get behind the wheel of a regular Smart Fortwo with Car2Go, but there have got to be people who are mote interested in being the first to share one of these electric runabouts, right?
