Toyota holds onto crown of World's Largest Automaker

Although there were hints and allegations that the Volkswagen Group might have taken the global sales crown for 2014, the final tally puts Toyota at the top for the third year in a row with 10.23 million sales in 2014. Volkswagen Group came second with 10.14 million units sold, General Motors came third with 9.92 million units sold. In 2015, however, the top two positions are expected to swap.

Subaru forecasts 540k US sales in 2015, 940k worldwide

After several years of growing sales, Subaru sees 2015 as no different. The Japanese brand thinks that it could sell around 540,000 vehicles in the US this year to make it the automaker's largest single market. To cope with all of this demand, the brand is also boosting production and later planning to add additional capacity to its SIA factory in Indiana for the Legacy and Outback.

Mark LaNeve named head of Ford US sales and marketing

Ford is promoting Mark LaNeve to become the head of the automaker's marketing, sales, service and dealer relations in the US, replacing John Felice, who is retiring. LaNeve is an auto industry veteran with previous experience in high-ranking position at General Motors, Volvo Cars North America and others. His previous position was as the chief operating officer at Global Ford Team, the Blue Oval's global advertising agency.

These are 2014's best-selling cars and trucks

Out of 16.5-million overall sales in 2014, the top three vehicles sold last year in the US were pickup trucks, led by the Ford F-Series. The rest of the top ten featured three Hondas, two Fords, two Toyotas and a Nissan, and elsewhere on the charts a number of brands had record years.

Porsche sells final 918 Spyder amidst excellent year of sales

2014 has been a banner year for Porsche, as the company has moved over 169,000 units through November, an increase of around 12,000 units over the same period in 2013. During last month alone, the company's sales saw a year-over-year jump of 25 percent. The European market, meanwhile, saw an 18-percent jump in sales, while its North American efforts have jumped 13 percent.
