2018 Acura TLX gets sporty A-Spec trim with mid-cycle refresh

Acura is giving the TLX a thorough refresh three years into its life cycle. The biggest changes are outside. All TLXs now feature a rendition of the pentagon-shaped grille found on the Precision concept and the MDX. In addition, the hood, fenders, lights, and front bumpers are tweaked. Other changes are exclusive to higher trim levels and engine options. The V6 model gets a unique rear bumper with dual-outlet exhaust and 18-inch alloy wheels rather than the four-cylinder's 17-inch wheels.

The most visually unique variant of the TLX lineup is the new A-Spec model. It comes with a more aggressive front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumper with faux diffuser. Fog lights, round dual exhaust outlets, and a black-painted rear spoiler are also standard features. The A-Spec receives some performance upgrades as well. Front-wheel-drive TLX A-Specs get firmer shocks and more responsive steering on the front-wheel-drive version, while the Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive ( SH-AWD) version adds firmer springs and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar. Wider tires on 19-inch wheels also come fitted to A-Spec models.

Inside, very little has changed. The same dash and steering wheel carry over from the previous generation. However, the dual-screen infotainment now features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Opting for the technology package on any V6 model also adds illuminated piping throughout the interior. The A-Spec does get a number of unique interior upgrades, though. It comes with more heavily bolstered seats available in red or black leather. The leather seats are accompanied by black Alcantara accents elsewhere, along with brushed aluminum-look trim and red illuminated piping. Unsurprisingly, A-Spec badges adorn it inside and out.

Acura has not released pricing or engine specs, yet, but expect them to remain similar to the current model. The current TLX four cylinder makes 206 horsepower, and the V6 makes 290. Pricing for the current model also starts at $32,950. The refreshed version will arrive at dealer lots this June.
