As America's storied bow-tie brand, the Detroit-based automaker isn't a stranger to 'Car of the Year' awards, but given the acclaim accorded Chevy's all-new Bolt EV, 2017 will serve as something of a benchmark. Beyond that very big news is a rash of enhancements and refinements to Chevy's car, truck and SUV lineups. And as 2017 winds down, an all-new Equinox and Traverse have already been announced for 2018.
CHEVROLET BOLT EV: This is GM's all-new EV, built using a clean-sheet design and 'crossover-like' proportions. With a 200+ mile range and transaction price (after the federal tax credit) of $30,000, it should prove a disruptor in the marketplace.
CAMARO: Celebrating fifty years, Chevrolet obligingly offers an available 50th anniversary edition. And if you're 15 and about to get a learner's permit, there's the wider availability of GM's Teen Driver feature.
CORVETTE: 'Vette aficionados will applaud the return of a new Grand Sport, which Chevy describes as a 'pure expression of Corvette's motorsports-bred pedigree'. This is perhaps the perfect Corvette for track days on an under-$100K budget.
CRUZE: All-new in 2016, Chevrolet adds a hatchback model and, in the spring of '17, a diesel sedan or hatch.
IMPALA: Unchanged.
MALIBU: A nine-speed automatic is now in the drivetrain mix, as is an available Sport Package. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are added to both LS and base LT radios.
SONIC: Chevy's expressive subcompact receives updated sheetmetal front and rear, a new gauge cluster, new infotainment and an available power driver's seat, which is reportedly a first for the segment.
SPARK/SPARK ACTIV: After a redesign in 2016 the Spark is unchanged. However, the addition of an ACTIV trim should generate buzz; think of it as Outback-lite, with unique front and rear fascias, off-road-oriented cladding and a gently raised ride height.
CHEVROLET SS: Going, going...gone! We're sad to see the cancelation of one of the best American sport sedans on the market.
VOLT: Offered as an all-new second-gen in 2016, this year Chevy adds its Teen Driver feature, adaptive cruise and Forward Automatic Braking.
COLORADO: An 8-speed automatic has been added to V6 versions, the AutoTrac transfer case is available with LT and Z71 4WD Colorados, and the Teen Driver feature is included.
EQUINOX: A Midnight Edition and Sport Edition are part of the model mix, as Chevy converts from production of '17s to the already-announced – and all-new – 2018 version.
SILVERADO: The half-ton's maximum tow rating is bumped to 12,500 pounds.
SILVERADO HD: An all-new intake system feeds air to models equipped with the Duramax diesel.
TAHOE/SUBURBAN: Chevy's Teen Driver feature is added, along with trim realignment and entertainment upgrades.
TRAVERSE: Chevy's three-row crossover receives minor mods, along with trim realignment. The all-new Traverse for 2018 is already announced.
TRAX: An aggressive refresh of the popular subcompact crossover includes all-new front appearance and new gauges, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
