Kalamazoo shooter picked up Uber fares between killings

Jason Dalton, the man police have identified as their only suspect in the Kalamazoo, MI rampage that left six dead and two more seriously injured, was an Uber driver who picked up fares in between shootings. According to local news station WOOD, police believe Dalton dropped off a group of passengers at a Fairfield Inn Marriot hotel just before driving to the Cracker Barrel next door and opening fire. Dalton's other victims were shot outside a townhouse and an automobile dealership.

Dalton was arrested around 12:40 AM in Kalamazoo during a traffic stop after a local police officer recognized his car. One semi-automatic gun was found in his vehicle. He did not resist arrest and is now in custody. All of the shootings are believed to have been completely random.

One Uber passenger picked up by Dalton appears to have posted a complaint to Facebook accusing him of erratic driving on the day of the shootings. The passenger reported, "911 was called, but surprisingly they didn't seem all that concerned." Police are investigating the report.

According to WOOD, Uber is working with authorities. "We are reaching out to the police to help with their investigation in any way that we can," Uber Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan said in a statement. Dalton had previously passed a background check, and he appears to have had no prior criminal record.
