Recharge Wrap-up: Son of Iowa governor tracks candidates for ethanol, BASF sues over battery tech

Substantial Growth Expected For V2G

Eric Branstad, son of Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, is tracking political candidates' positions on ethanol. Working for ethanol group America's Renewable Future, Branstad and his colleagues are attending appearances and recording candidates' statements regarding ethanol, agriculture and the Renewable Fuel Standard. Branstad recently called out Ted Cruz at an event for perceived inconsistencies regarding the ethanol fuel mandate, and his group has recorded and published statements from Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee regarding the RFS. A new report predicts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 47.68 percent for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems between 2015 and 2019. The ability of these systems to balance grid loads and meet high load demands are responsible for their growth. V2G systems are also valuable for their ability to use an electric vehicle as a backup power source during emergencies. The report also notes that government incentives for electric vehicle charging stations and increased EV sales will lead to more charging stations being built across the globe. Chemical company BASF is suing battery material supplier Umicore over a type of battery cell chemistry that could improve electric vehicle performance. BASF, which holds exclusive license to nickel-cobalt manganese (NMC) cathode material, is suing Umicore for selling said material. The suit seeks billions of dollars in damages and claims Umicore threatened to sue companies for doing business with BASF. The lawsuit also involves 3M, Makita and Argonne National Laboratory, as well as specifics about electrochemistry and US and international patent law. What it will all mean for the future of NMC technology and EVs is still unclear. Read more at Quartz, or at Green Car Reports.

Global Grid-to-Vehicle Market (V2G) to See 47% CAGR to 2019

DALLAS, April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- DALLAS, April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

ReportsnReports.com adds Global Grid-to-Vehicle (V2G) Market 2015-2019 research report that says ability of vehicle-to-grid systems to meet high electric load demands has resulted in the immense growth of the Global Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Market, which is expected to post a CAGR of 47.68% from 2015-2019.

The Global Vehicle-to-grid market is divided into the following segments based on application: Electric Vehicles, Technology, and Infrastructure. The number of charging stations in the Chinese and European markets will grow at a rapid rate, given the cost reductions and entrepreneurial development in the regions. Load levelling is one of the most essential functions of V2G technology and helps balance loads between periods of high and low demand.

This latest report Global Grid-to-Vehicle (V2G) Market 2015-2019 also emphasizes government incentives and subsidies on electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and the increasing sales of EVs that are expected to contribute to the growing number of charging stations worldwide.

V2G technologies enable the usage of electric vehicles as distributed storage devices. The stored power can be utilized to feed the electrical system during periods of peak demand or for use in homes and offices. V2G is useful in times of sudden surges in electrical load, and as a back-up in case of emergencies.
