Best military photos of the week: October 24

So, you think traffic is bad where you live? This week's lead shot comes from Hohenfels, Germany. The tanks, from the US Army's 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, are taking part in the multi-national Combined Resolve III exercises.

Alongside a big uptick in Army coverage this week, we've got plenty from the US Air Force, Marines and Navy for your perusal. Scroll down for the highlights or head into the gallery and see what we've uncovered.



We don't normally include coverage of the US Air Force's Thunderbirds or the US Navy's Blue Angels, largely because they have so many good photos that they'd dominate our lists. This shot, though, an artsy black-and-white job, is beautifully composed as well. The Thunderbirds and their F-16s were flying as part of the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show.



The USS George Washington sails into Manila Bay, Philippines on what looks like a calm, lovely evening.



If you want one of the best views in the US military, you need to get aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker and work the refueling boom. This shot comes from Exercise Vigilant Shield and shows an Air Force F-15 refueling in the skies over North America. Vigilant Shield is a bi-national exercise held between the US and Canada.
