Video: BMW asks, "Where are our flying cars?"

BMW imagines the future of mobility – Click above to watch the video after the break

December 17, 1903. That's the date the Wright Brothers first managed to get themselves and their heavier-than-air contraption off the ground for its maiden flight. As you're surely aware, it's been even longer since we've all been driving ourselves around on wheeled machines. A logical question, then, may be: Where are our flying cars?

BMW wants to know too, and they've rather thoughtfully provided a video on the subject for your viewing pleasure, featuring none other than futurist and conceptual designer Syd Mead and Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. This is the second installment of BMW's Wherever You Want To Go series of videos, entitled The Future Just Isn't What It Used To Be. Ain't that the truth...

Might we just bypass that incremental flying car step altogether in favor of suborbital space travel? The idea of cutting long-distance journeys into a quarter of what it takes using current air travel sure sounds nice.

Wishful thinking of the future of mobility? See for yourself in the video after the break.
