Spain's Minister of Industry, Miguel Sebastián, has announced that Spain will subsidize purchases of electric vehicles up to 15 to 20 percent of its cost. For standard electric cars, Spaniards can get up to €7,000 back; for vehicles such as motorbikes, buses or trucks, the aid ranges between €750 and €20,000. The program is funded with up to 8 million euros and is called Movele (Plan de Movilidad Eléctrica - Electric Mobility plan). Movele also includes money for the immediate purchase of 2,000 electric cars and charging points for the municipalities of Barcelona, Madrid and Seville. Mr. Sebastián said that the Spanish government considers EVs a key way to reduce foreign oil dependency. Makes sense, since Spain imports 80 percent of its energy.
