$300,000 available in latest EPA Midwest clean-diesel grants

Got a good idea how to reduce diesel emissions in your town? Do you live in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio or Wisconsin? Two "yes"es and you should click here to submit a project proposal to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5's Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative. The EPA will accept submissions for the next two months (until Sept. 18) and will announce about $300,000 in grants for the cleaner diesel projects next Jan. 1.
The EPA said yesterday that, "Proposals may include but are not limited to diesel exhaust retrofits, vehicle replacement, idle reduction technologies or strategies, and use of cleaner burning fuels such as biodiesel." Sorry, though, "School bus projects are not eligible for these grants."

$300,000 is not a lot of money compared to what it's going to take to make diesel buses and trucks ultra clean, but I'm sure your mayor wouldn't oppose fifty grand to clean up the local truck stop with anti-idling equipment or something similar.
