Green car floor mat will appear in Mitsubishis later this year

See that funny shaped blob in the picture off to the right? That's Mitsubishi's newest world-saving device. Or something. The product, revealed Wednesday in Tokyo, is a plant-based Green Plastic floor mat that will find its way into a Mitsubishi vehicle later this year. The mat is made from a combination of the plant-based resin polylactic acid (PLA) and nylon fibers and will reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by 40 percent and volatile organic compounds by 50 percent over current floor mats, according to the company. PLA is made "using lactic acid produced through the fermentation of sugar extracted from sugar cane or corn and will be used in the carpet pile facing on floor mats."
