If you thought the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe concept that was shown at Villa d'Este a few months back was a preview of a new BMW 8 Series, prepare to be disappointed. According to a report from the UK's Autocar, BMW officials have "rejected suggestions" that a production model based on the concept was coming. To be fair, though, would you expect them to just acknowledge it?

The Brits seem to be thinking the same, as the story went on to quote BMW research and development chief, Herbert Diess, who claimed, "We're looking into the possibility of production, but a decision is still a way off." Diess also points out that it's far too early for anything to be confirmed, seeing as how the concept only debuted about 10 weeks ago.

The well-received Gran Lusso was penned by Pininfarina and motivated by a brawny, twelve-cylinder engine. If it were to enter production, it'd likely sit at the top of BMW's gas-powered offerings, and would compete against the Mercedes-Benz CL AMG and Bentley Continental GT.

That's a real shame, because this is the best looking thing to come out of BMW in the last decade.

Ah shucks, BMW and Cadillac you tease us with concepts of grand coupes. A niche product I have so much admiration for, Lincoln please for the love of god give us a six figure grand coupe!

Well the Elmiraj is #2 of a 3 part series (the Ciel being the first). We should eventually see a near production sedan for the 3rd vehicle. Hopefully most of that styling carries over.

Didn't the 6 effectively replace the 8 by being about the same size?

So they build crap like the X4 and 3 and 5 series Gt and won't come out with this? BMW just sucks now.

Considering the concept pics above, thank God that design is way lame.

I wouldn't produce this either....wait for a new resign and justify the 6 series size and increase it to truly compete with grand coupes......the 6 is almost a tweener between smaller and grand coupes.......and if cadillac's el miraj isn't a mirage......well BMW better get to work.....

My guess is the market for such a high end two door is pretty limited. BMW seems to be more focused on the smaller end of their products, including the new EV line of "i" vehicles.

How about cleaning up the 6 series instead? That car is out of proportion and bloated. A good make over and weight reduction would be a much sounder business model than to build a new low volume 150k budget rolls royce coupe
