The Telsa Model S may have won just about every automotive award it could last year, but that doesn't mean it's a perfect vehicle. Far from it. Drivers have been asking when the already high-tech vehicle will get somewhat normal features, like adaptive cruise control or blind spot detection. Well, a new video of menus hidden within the giant touch screen in the Model S shows that those two features might be coming soon, along with a lane departure warning. When these options might arrive is anyone's guess, but the video (see it below) shows that the software is at least in the prototype stage. In any case, unless Tesla has installed a bunch of sensors and not told anyone about them, turning these features on will require more than just a software update.

The hidden menu also shows some as-of-yet-unannounced apps in the car's software: an image viewer, a sketch pad, a scheduler/calendar and various test apps.

The way you access these menus, apparently, is by holding down the Tesla logo on the main menu for a few seconds and then entering an access code. We don't know this password and we also don't recommend fooling around in there, since it looks like you might be able to muck things up, but good. We have enough trouble rooting our phones and we're not sure we'd like to take the risk with an $70,000+ electric vehicle. But if someone else wants to do so and post a video online, then we're happy to watch.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL....YES! I have this on my Infiniti and would love this on a Tesla. Its the only thing stopping me from getting one.

This could be another new and awesome strategy - offer customers upgrades and options after they purchased the car. Tesla has already said that it intends to do that by offering software upgrades and this is in line with that. You can pay more than double the cost of a Tesla S and buy a MB S65 sedan and Mercedes is not going to call you and ask you to come in so that they can upgrade your navigation menu.

Tesla won't either. . . they'll call you and say would you like an update, and they'll send it to your car via wifi. No need to come in.

That headline made me so hungry. Must be close to lunch. I was thinking "So Telsa DOES serve spagetti. I knew it".

RetrogradE: an apt moniker. You say you don't get it and that is the truth. Why do people like Tesla so much? 1. The torque off the line, out of a corner, at the slower speeds is better than virtually every other car on the road. Read reviews. 2. The interior is the first and only Spartan, modern interior that really appeals to people who care about their personal space and how it feels to them. Slobs don't get that, do you? 3. Tesla is a US company producing the highest tech EV on the planet today, that really means a lot to people who care about all the varying benefits of BEV's. these are just 3 things off the top of my head that make me really excited about what Tesla is trying to achieve. Now, when you consider that Elon has created not just Tesla but SpaceX and PayPal and SolarCity there are even more reasons to look to the man as a wonderful entrepreneur. What is so effing hard to understand about people having a bit of admiration for his achievements? You've achieved nothing close to what Elon has yet you get your panties in a bunch when folks here suggest that you have no money to buy a Tesla. What an arrogant pig you seem to be! Whatever, pretend you don't know. I think it's proof you have an unnatural and undefeatable attraction to him.

Hope they start getting into the black, but I like to drive my car, not it driving me.

Some day you'll drive an electric car and realize how ridiculous that statement is. The instant throttle response of an EV makes an ICE feel so disconnected. An EV feels like an extension of your foot an ICE feels like you're coaxing it to do what you want.

Thanks for calling it a $70k+ car and not going with the stale $100k generalization.

I just want to reiterate that Telsa's technology is nascent and unimpressive IMO. I'm not trying to sway anyone to my line of thinking and I'm not a troll. I just don't understand the fascination with this company, this car, and Musk himself. Anyone can borrow a billion dollars and get their name in the paper. Big whoop. Tesla is boring as ****. And, you guys can rest easy because I won't be commenting on any more Tesla articles. . . because I won't be reading them. Not that it matters.

Rest assured it is a personal flaw causing you to feign a lack of understanding. You know that Tesla is the only successful new car company in America in a LONG time and the ModelS is being acclaimed as a great car, period. Your pretending to be unimpressed is not fooling anyone and your jealousy(and personal inadequacy) is all you display here. I'm glad you say won't come back since you'll be a hypocrite when you do. :)
