The streaking meteor event in Siberia last week has led Jon Stewart to spare a few minutes on The Daily Show to examine footage of the explosion 20 miles high and said to be equal to 300 kilotons of TNT.

But his real interest is asking why so many Russians were able to get the footage in the first place, i.e., why are there so many dashcams? Coincidentally, Wired asked the same question just a few days ago. Using plenty of examples to illustrate his point – akin to this, and this, and this, that we have become oh so used to – Stewart surmises that Russian roads are "A live-action Grand Theft Auto" and that "Russians in their daily lives see so much amazing [expletive] that they have become unfazeable."

You can watch his amusing take on our comrades across the Pacific in the video below.

If I frequently drove in a downtown area I would have a dash cam rolling all the time.

I bet it would be just as entertaining if someone uploaded the best events from the parking lot security cameras at Walmart.

In Soviet Russia, the motherland makes culturally insensitive cliches about YOU!

John and Steven haven't been funny in years. They have dropped to "Bill Maher" funny. Still hard to believe that kids in college believe that they what they say is actual news.

No one except super-conservatives think what they are doing is actually news. Besides, you learn more than what you do on MSNBC and Fox

Well I love those two guys dearly. I used to watch DL and CR all the time, but I stopped when their shows became pro-liberal on every single issue. It's like come on guys like can you ever rip on your beloved Obama administration? Make fun of Eric Holder's cozy relationship with big banks and so forth. I'm afraid they have gotten a bit too disingenuous especially after Obama won in 2009. But I guess that's what drives the ratings.

There was an article about these dash cams years ago. They use them for insurance purposes because there are so many accidents.
